GP1138 Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 Alright, I got my wheel off on the drivers side, and looked and there was no brake pad on the left side! :!: So I took off the caliper and I think the reason my pedal went all the way to the floor is that both pistons were removable from the bores. I could see inside the bores. So I managed to push the pistons back into their bores with a B/A C-clamp, and now I've got everything re-assembled, and I have no brake pedal still. It still goes all the way to the floor. I did bleed the brakes, went all around the car, and bled like 3 times, and still nothing. I can hear a clunk when I drive, from the driver's side brakes, and I'm thinking I need a new caliper.. I just bought new rotors and pads for the front, I don't wanna have to buy a new caliper.. but I guess I have to. Anyone experienced this before? Quote
5speedz34 Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 Yeah, it sounds like you need a new caliper. If you don't want to spend alot go to the junkyard. Quote
GP1138 Posted November 29, 2003 Author Report Posted November 29, 2003 Update: I drove home and now there's a steering shimmy too. This is wonderful. My rotors are completely fucked. Luckily I bought new ones. Unluckily, I can't get the caliper mounting bracket torx bolts off. Luckily, I'm going to someone's house who has air tools tomorrow. Unluckily, this means he's going to find the c-clamp on the rear driver's side. Oh well, it'll be nice to have working brakes. And less of a reason to trade this car in... right... Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 the '88-'93 rear calipers are known to be junk. i'd take your new rotors back before you use them and trade them for '94+ 11" rotors. you can get the newer style calipers pretty cheap from a salvage yard; i got a set for my car for about $10. the only problem is hooking up the old e-brake cable to the new calipers but it can be done. i still haven't hooked my e-brake cable up but others here have and could help with that if you choose to go with the '94+ style rear brakes. joshua Quote
GP1138 Posted November 29, 2003 Author Report Posted November 29, 2003 Only problem with that is $. I already spent all the money I had on brake pads and rotors, and I have zero money left. The guy I'm doing the mounting brackets with tomorrow is going to be footing the bill, but I doubt I'm going to be able to convince him to buy me much more than a new caliper... don't ask. I hate being poor. It's gay too, because I need this car to make money. I deliver pizza... Quote
