cutty collector
I am working on installing a new top on my 93 vert the top frame opens and closes ,but if left in certain positions it drops quickly .I was considering putting Viagra in with the fluid to see if it would help but perhaps there is a more conventional fix .One side of the top seems to move forward further as it goes up am I right in suspecting cylinder seals bypassing for the other side
GabsOlds
The midpoint with the top in the vertical /upright is the only place where it will stay. I had to keep the car running so I could bump it back up or down when it would drift when I installed my top.

kennyb13126
both sides of mine go up evenly, when i stop it usually starts moving towards the path oth least resisitance. if the fluid is where it belongs, then I would have to think about the seals as well. GabsOlds
The motor pumps fluid to the cylinders to overcome the weight of the top and send it up. Once the top is past the vertical, it falls onto the windshield header by gravity. There are no check valves in the system to prevent the fluid from returning to the tank, or any flow controls to slow the escape of the fluid out of the other side of the cylinders. It's just a simple system where the motor sends hydraulic fluid to either side of the cylinders, and gravity of the top's frame and rag do affect its motion in either direction.  So, yes, it is normal for the top to drift down after the button is released between positions.
