Padgett
Does anyone have a .BIN for a BCFA or BBUK PROM, or a whole Memcal/Calpack/blue thing, or a LQ1/284 ECM with PROM ? I need to bring the fans in sooner for summer driving. Can provide a complete set of maps and settings.
Psych0matt
Get a Wot-tech chip, pretty sure he can change that, and it wakes it up a bit
Padgett
Am sure he could but expect it's not that different from a 3800 of the same vintage, All GM ECMs from about 1986 to 1994 start from the same template. Since I have all of the equipment needed and have done this before, doubt if it is much different. Looks like a 3.1 would have the basis I need & just got the LQ1 .tdf from TC. Only thing I don't really know is if the "limp home" for a 3800 is the same as a 3.4. Have some Fiero stuff but that is all 166 baud and 2732s. Psych0matt
Are you saying you have the equipment to burn your own but need the file? My suggestion (regardless of your fan issue) is to get his chip. I'm suggesting he could most likely modify fan turn on as well, rather than cobble together a different file into a chip. Alternately, why not modify yours if you have equipment?
RobertISaar
you can either pull your BIN off of the MEMCAL or download the one that has been uploaded to either the 60V6.com file repository or via gearhead-efi. there is actually very little overlap between the code used with the 60V6 and 3800 applications until the OBD2 transition, when almost all of the V6 stuff went to a common controller/code. Padgett
Thank you. Was not talking about the program, as long as PROM is a 27c256, but the "get home" resistor network that is also on the Memcal/Calpack/blue thingie.
Padgett
BTW now have the BFCA .bin and while the cold idle rpm is much lower than am experiencing (and now have the intake manifold gaskets), I definitely do not like the cooling fan parameters. Since I never change an original, I need some Memcals/Calpaks/blue carrier but suspect any 91-94 3.1 or 3.4 will have the resister network I need. Can replace the 27C256 if needed. Anyone have extras ? Would consider a whole 16149396 ECM or service replacement (I like to have a spare) as long as it has the Memcal inside. RobertISaar
if you want something entirely correct for the NETRES and knock filter, you're limited to any 91-93 3.4 MEMCAL. I've used a 94-95 3.4 MEMCAL in the 91-93 PCM without issue, but I couldn't say if it causes any issues if the ECM drops into limp-home mode. Padgett
Found something interesting, something called "highway fuel enable" which is switched off in the stock PROM. Looks like when turned on then above a set speed (50mph) and below PE, the mixture leans out from 14.7 to 15.4. I have noticed the highway MPG to be quite poor. Also the ECM is "all in" over 80C (171F) so going to a 180F thermostat and bringing the Lo fan in at 85C (185F) and HI at 89C (192F) is reasonable. I run my Reattas that way. BTW the stock setting turns the LO fan on at 107C (224F) which IMNSHO is way too hot. I know the design max is 260F but in cars I've kept over a decade & run cool (like the Reattas), everything under the hood lasts longer. RobertISaar
highway fuel is a neat trick, I've bumped the AFR into the 16.2:1 range without experiencing lean misfires, though it can probably be leaned even further. I've rewritten some code to allow for a 2D table that references MAP to determine a target AFR while in highway fuel to really fine tune AFR vs load. also be aware that highway spark MUST be active for highway fuel to be enabled. if the engine is in a condition that doesn't allow for it(table is 0'd or not in the right MAP range), highway fuel is skipped in the code. I set my fans 10 and 15*F higher than the thermostat temps, but if you play with idle speed and idle advance enough, they'll rarely need to turn on anyways.
