Nick1234
I was thinking for christmas presents, since everyone insists on getting me something, that i would get the cam from gmpartsdirect :12364059 Camshaft Kit Applicable to all 1980-94 Chevrolet 60º V6 (2.8-liter & 3.1-liter) engines, this performance-oriented camshaft kit is designed to significantly improve mid-range torque and horsepower without sacrificing idle quality. The basic RPM range is 1500-4500 with 6500 RPM attainable using proper valve springs. Cruise RPM is designed for 2200-2600 RPM, and a compression ratio of 8.0-9.5 to 1 is recommended. This kit is not legal for pollution-controlled vehicles. This camshaft kit is designed and manufactured by Crane Camshaft Co.® for GM Service Parts Division. The kit includes (1) camshaft and (12) tappets. The duration at .050 lift (intake/exhaust) is 204º/216º, while the value lift is .427"/.454". Lobe centerline is 112." and some comp cams roller tip rockers. The question is, is it worth the time?I know it will all work, but am i really going to benifit from doing all of this work? I was also going to port out the exhaust manifolds. Any input would we great! Nick
Nick1234
Right now, what i most want is that seat of your pants feel. I want it to push you back alittle. Right now i have intake and exhuast mods and i ported and polished the upper plenum. Im thinkin if i do get the cam and port and polish the exhaust manifolds, and the intake, it would be decent. Maybe low 16s possibly really high 15s.? What do you guys think?
Flyby736
I would hope you would get a lot more than low 16's. With those mods I would hope for mid 15's.
Nick1234
Hey davis thanks for the info. How much of a power increase did you acutally get? Could you really feel it? I think with the COMP cams roller tip rockers, prted exhaust manifold, and ported intake manifold, hopefully it will be a really good combo. Any more info on your car would be great! What year 3.1 did you put it in? Thanks
Nick1234
Davis, i ported out the upper plenum on my own. I am going to do a lot more research so when i port my intake manifold and exhuast manifold, I will really benefit and it will help me a lot in power gains. I will keep you posted on how it goes. Nick1234
Is that camshaft kit from gmpartsdirect a hydrolic camshaft? An does that mean that it has hydrolic lifters and the oil goes threw the lifter?

Nick buy the rest of the parts including the larger injectors and ecm upgrade and the car will see 225-250hp and MOSTLY pass emissions. this is WITHOUT a turbo btw... Nick1234
I don't think i will see over 200 hp with a cam and roller tip rockers... Does anyone say different?
91cutty
With ported intake and exhaust and the new cam I'd say you'd be looking at around 180 TOPS! If you even could make 200-250 hp you'd need new pistons cause the stock pistons would self-destruct!
quaddriver
I don't think i will see over 200 hp with a cam and roller tip rockers... Does anyone say different? toss on the heads aluminum p/n 10048649 or iron p/n 10134322 and combine with cam p/n 12364059. use a set of larger 3800 injectors and a recalibrated maf and a reprogrammed prom and you will get there.
