My head cracked on me a few weeks ago and rather than fix it I just bought another car and parked it.

First, it's an external crack at the front lower left head bolt (right near x-over) in the little recess the bolt sits in. It's just an annoyance with coolant leaking on the manifold, the car runs great and it's not getting in cylinder or oil. So leaving the engine together....

Could I clean it up and hit it with some JB-weld or something?? Would it hold or burn up? Would it continue to crack? Could a shop fix it, at what cost??

If I had to replace it would I be better off with the cast ones(2.8l) cause I still have no idea why it cracked in the first place :? :?

I just hate to rip appart a good running engine cause of a currently external leak. And till I get it swapped it would be nice to drive it without smoke streaming out the driverside hood vent, "nah baby just thats my Nawz"  Makes the car look like a POS.  I so miss driving it. :peace:

y dont you sell the car, get a V6 camaro, and call it a Super Sport?

Aaron why don't you go f#@k yourself seeing as you don't have anything intelligent to say. I guess I should have just bought the Z34 and then I could be a loser just like you. What was I thinking why would I want an original car when I could own a Z34 just like you and a million other assholes. Still can't get over that can you Aaron, sounds like a case of small penis syndrome??? Mines bigger that yours is!!!!

Guys, guys. chill.

lets remember what the difference between a Lumina and a z34 actualy is.

same body

suspension ok myabe a higher package

engine. ya know the euro had teh 3.4

ground effects

front grill

and spoiler

and manual "option"

are the only things that made a z34 what it is.

IMO if you have the ground effects the spoiler and grill with the 3.4 under the hood it dosnt matter if it has 4 doors or 2doors its the z34 package

i don't think he meant it like that

if he didn't mean it like that, then he should've picked his words a bit more carefully, reading what he says, anyone who owns a "real" Z34, is an arrogant, loser asshole... if he didn't mean that, he could've simply said "Aaron" like everyone else does  instead of grouping all us factory Z34's together, I mean, if there was someone with a N/A 3.1 acting the same way as Aaron does about his Z, and someone got mad about it and said the same thing Baddflash did, about the 3.1 owners, you probably wouldn't enjoy it would ya?

(sorry... kinda got into a rant... but I really hate generalizations...)

No I'm not speaking to anyone but Aaron!! Sorry to everyone else if it sounded like I was hating on them or Z34's, I can see thats how it sounds but it wasn't intentional, I guess I should have re-read it before posting.

My problem is Aaron has been acting like a complete ass because of a minor mistake in my sig. ie it said "1990 Lumina 4DR Z34" when it was meant to say "1990 Lumina 4DR + Z34" Which is exactly what I'm doing but I'm making it better. Right now the only thing a Z34 has over my car is the 3.4L and 5-SPD. The 5-SPD will be going in right away but the 3.4L won't make it, as I'm putting in an L67. Hell I even have guages out of Z34, among other things.

I appreciate what extremelumina92 and others said, it really isn't that big a deal and I agree a Z34 is more or less an options package. I've never claimed to have a Z34 and I make no attempt to hide the fact that it's not. I could have bought that Z34 but I decided to strip it and build mine up instead, just to have something a bit different plus insurance on a Z34 would kill me.

If Aaron could see past himself we could end the stupid crap. I just wasn't going to put up with his shit as he started all this, there was no need to be ignorant about it but that's the choice he made.

This is a common crack for the 3.1s. IT really cannot be fixed, all you can do is put a new head on it. This is not a commercial plug, but I can get u the head for $75 complete from Ricks Auto in Kersey PA (they have a 800 number if you wanna look them up - just keep in mind monday starts deer so no one will be there)

When you change the head, the bolts are all TTY's so u need new ones

The book lists about 8 hrs in/out for intakes and add 2 for heads, but I can talk u thru it in 6 ( I love the T code 3.1 - its a cash cow for my shop, of all the parts I dont keep in stock, T code intakes is one thing I do)

nice thing is, once you redo the heads and intake on a T code with the felpro set and some proper rtv - it never needs done again and they run FOREVER.

btw- I can get you a complete 3.1 with a rod knock but good heads for cheap (hell the guy only wants 300 for the whole 92? 93 lumina)

At the risk of sounding like a commercial here, I say your car is a perfect candidate for K&W Block Seal. Go to your local NAPA and get yourself a can, follow the directions and it will seal that bad boy right up!

Any question, just call the 1-800 Technical number on the can. Hey, you might get to talk to me if you call at the right time!

Good luck.
