TurboGTU Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Fel-pro 9471PT (stock) Could use spacer shim 8699SP1 to lower compression...but I didn't. Quote
god910 Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 I'm o-ringing, and going copper. Quote
RebelGT Posted November 25, 2003 Author Report Posted November 25, 2003 where does the copper headgasket come from? and are you o'ringing the heads or the block? I'm not super familiar with this, so any help would be cool. Quote
god910 Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 That I know of no one is making copper headgaskets, it just a very expensive custom job. I am having the block o-ringed. I hear having the heads done is more expensive and better, but I honestly don't see how. If someone could explain that that'd be cool. My machine shop charges $20 a hole to o-ring. So $120 for a V-6 aint bad. 8) Depending on what kind of boost you plan on running, one or the other should be okay, but if you plan on moderate c/r and high boost, or low c/r and very high boost 20+ you should get them both done to keep your pieces together. TurboZ24 Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 http://www.headgasket.com/ They will make them in .022, .032, .040, .043, .048, .054, .063, .070, .086, .093, and .125 inches. They have the 60 degree V6 on file. That's where I get my copper gaskets from. Quote
idbeast Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Great link Curtis!!! :worship: Quote
RebelGT Posted November 26, 2003 Author Report Posted November 26, 2003 thanks alot for the help guys, i'm going to see how much the local machinist wants to have the heads o-ringed. Quote
TurboZ24 Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Very few machine shops are setup for head o-ringing. I paid 200.00 to ring the set of heads, while my regular machinist charges only 10 per cylinder to do the block. Quote
god910 Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Anyone want to chime in on why it's better to ring the heads instead of the block? Also, how much do the copper gaskets from the link run ya? Quote
TGPilot Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Anyone have pictures of an O-ringed block or head? That sounds interesting! 8) Quote

Also, how much do the copper gaskets from the link run ya? is it really worth it to run copper head gaskets on a *stock* 3.1 turbo? should i be ok running the Fel-pro 9471PT head gaskets and new head bolts? the Turbo Dodge guys seem to hate Fel-pro with a passion. any advice certainly appreciated; i will be buying new head gaskets very soon. thanks joshua Quote

Go with GM head gaskets Quote

I tried looking on GMPD but they dont give a # specific to TGP, just a # for n/a. Quote
god910 Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 No, you shouldn't need copper if you are staying pretty much stock. Sunshine is still on stock gaskets w/ 16+ psi (manifold) a few times (whoops) and (this takes all) #1 cylinder has a head bolt missing. All this w/ ~160K on the ticker. Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 thanks, i am going to keep things completely stock for now. right now i just want to keep everything as simple/inexpensive as possible and get to know the TGP engine better. mods will come later tho thanks again, i'm gonna try to pull the heads off tomarrow if i have enough time before work. joshua Quote
