Dannymik
My driverside outer tie-rod was spent in my Cutlass. This wasn't the worst job, but not the easiest. Me and the neighbor looked at it yesterday and decided that today(Sunday) would be a great day to replace it(Nice day in Buffalo, low 60's and sunny). He sprayed the threads with some stuff called TRUST which is top notch(GM mechanic preferred that you can get at AUTOZONE). Everything went smooth until the inner and outer Tie-rod wouldn't come apart. We used a heating torch and it finally broke loose. Then all the rest was cake. GM doesn't grease the inside of these Tie-rods which is why they expire! I guess its another thing they do to make more loot! The other side on my car is on its way out, but that will be done after the winter along with those pesky lower ball joints!
J
lower ball joints are a bitch
Justin
They do grease the factory joints, but how long do you expect the grease to last? By the way, a factory non-greaseable tie rod end/ball joint/u-joint will usually last longer than a greaseable unit, since it's built better and most people don't grease them even if they can. Bolt_Crank
if it's a factory greasable, and you grease it, it'll last longer than the non-greasable
Dannymik
The other side on my car is on its way out, but that will be done after the winter along with those pesky lower ball joints! What brand balljoints did you buy, and where did you buy them from? I bought mine from AutoZone and I think they pull the bottom of the tire in a little too much and the camber is off. (And from what I see it can't be adjusted.) I was just wondering if your's do the same, you'll have to take a close look if you didn't notice. I didn't buy them yet. I will keep an eye open for that when I do them. I bought my Tie-Rod from Advance Auto, because Autozone was out of them.
lilloon
if u have an air hammer with a chisel and punch bit for it, its gravy. very very easy. the rivits are the hard part, go pneumatic and your life will be 100x easier. about 20 minutes per ball joint on a bad day. dykz34
Be sure to get it aligned now that you had a tie rod off.
