Well tonight I drove my friend around in my car to show him how my car has been acting for the past couple of months and he thinks the Torque Converter Clutch is going bad.

I think he's right since it only does it when it's engaged.

Do these go bad often?

Do I need to replace it?

Thanks

Not sure what your car's doing.... but see if it quits when you apply the brake, as that disengages the torque converter clutch.

Yes it quits when I hit the brakes. What happens is the car will shake when it is engaged. The more gas I give the car the more it shakes.

I had to replace mine in my lumina when I 1st bought it.

Was it hard?

BINGO! My car does the same exact thing! The harder you press the gas while in 4th, the more violent it will shake until you hit half throttle and it downshifts. Does yours also shake while sitting idle?

Ummmmmm, Haven't changed it since I owned the car. At least 23,000 since it's been changed. I want to change it just need to get fluid, filter and time.

This weekend might work for a fluid change.

i had this problem when i bought my cavvy. when i would come to a stop it would shake and stall. It would start back up, but as soon as i put it in gear it would stall again. My stepdad(buick tech) just unplugged the tcc plug and i have been driving it like that ever since. Not exactly the best gas mileage but car still runs good none the less.

The 440t4/4t60 TCCs dont go bad (and if they do its not a trivial fix and you CANNOT unplug it like a 125/3t40) change the fluid/filter TWICE and put on a cooler. many a TSB on shudder during 4th gear TCC lockup
