zcg_cutlasssleeper Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 Hello y'all. I'm not sure who will read this because I am still trying to figure out how to use W-Body as I am new to the whole thing. But I'm going to ask on here if anyone knows about transmission coolers... The ones that are itty bitty and suppisably cools the tranny so hear related failure will not occur. I got a 92 Cutlass Supreme 3.1 btw. Any help would be much appreciated Quote
pitzel Posted September 1, 2015 Report Posted September 1, 2015 4T60 failure is remarkably uncommon. I've personally run one out to 400k km's without even so much as a fluid change (and it probably could have still gone further, but the rest of the car was toast!). There's lots of better places to put your maintenance dollars than worrying about adding an extra transmission cooler. Using the new synthetic Dexron-VI should help longevity as well. Quote
Galaxie500XL Posted September 2, 2015 Report Posted September 2, 2015 I installed a junkyard cooler from a Regal in my LQ1 Cutlass a number of years ago. Bolted right up, and my total cost was less than $40.00. Quote
l67ss Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 4T60 failures uncommon? ROFLMAO! Quote
pitzel Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 4T60 failures uncommon? ROFLMAO! With the 3.1L LH0 attached, or even the 3800s of the era, of course. Maybe not with the L67 or LQ1 though. Quote
l67ss Posted September 6, 2015 Report Posted September 6, 2015 I killed one(which had 70k on it) with a mostly stock 3400. Killed a second one with a 3100 that was stock other than having a 3400 tb Quote

Killed a second one with a 3100 that was stock other than having a 3400 tb 3100? Sure you aren't thinking of the known-to-be-weaker 4T60-E? Not the 4T60 (440-T4)? AFAIK, the 4T60 was never mated to the 3100. Quote
l67ss Posted September 7, 2015 Report Posted September 7, 2015 What was weaker about the e? Sure it wasnt just the increased power that caused that idea? I mean the first series 2 3800s (l36 and l67 had 60es.... Quote
