Dannymik
I have the pan dropped right now for my tranny and would like to know if the original gasket is reusable? I have the 4T60-E. It looks like the original gasket, because it is more of a rubber material rather than the cork looking one I bought in the tranny filter kit. Any help on this? Redfox340
Does the rubber gasket have metal wires in it, like a Wonderbra? If so, it's re-useable. If not, use the new one provided in the kit. - Erik
Dannymik
it looks like it does, because it stays in the shape it suppose to be in...not floppy. Would you reuse it or go with the aftermarket cork one?
Aaron
go with the aftermarket one you have, its a problem you can avoid.

Would you reuse it or go with the aftermarket cork one? If it does have the wires in the gasket, wipe it down and re-use it. Those are the best gaskets because they do not leak if correct torque on bolts is applied. - Erik
Dannymik
The original gasket looks to be in good shape. Overall the fluid wasn't brown, a little dark maroon. I didn't see any metal shavings either.
Dannymik
this is my 1st tranny fluid change since I owned the car. It has 76,000 on it and I bought it with 48,000. Thats why I think it the original gasket...no records of fluid change before I owned it.
PaPaPooh
well here is somethings to think about aftermarket is good if you plan on doing it again at 30,xxx or so but go with your feelings if you want to use the old gasket you can it seems to be in good shape it also never hurts to have extra gaskets around in case of an emergancy but go with what you feel good luck

No leaks at this moment! I do plan on doing this again. I have 76K on the Cutty right now so I looking to do it at about 95K. IMO this is a very easy job, but 20 bolts later and some overspill spots on the driveway with a handful of rags that are a mess=the not so fun part. Bottom line is that I did it for 1/4 of the cost compared to a garage .

The transmission shop here charges $85 to do a simple pan drop and filter change. It's definately a messy job though, if you don't have proper equipment. sk8erbro
dont put a cork one on there stick with the rubber its way better and just go buy the rubber one using a gasket over again is asking for a leak.

I just had mine changed last weekend for $60 CA. They dropped the pan, cleaned it out, made sure the magnet was ok, changed the filter and gasket, and put in new fluid. They also did something which might be a touch difficult to do at home too; namely, they ran a litre or so of warm fluid right through it just to make sure it was cleaned right out. Dannymik
I all ready have done the pan drop. Everything is going good right now. I changed the filter, 6 quarts of fluid, and checked the gasket for any major rips or tears and found only a minor tear on one part of it. Its back in the pan right now, I torqued the bolts 120 in/ 10ft lbs and will keep an eye on it!
