sean1991olds Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 So I bought the car like this (below), instinct is to just shove it back on, but I'd like to make sure its stuck on good. However I don't want it to be impossible to take off ever, also don't want to damage the rubber with whatever I use. I'm thinking to use 3M Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive - or - Permatex Contact Cement (on package lists weather stripping+bonds rubber to glass/metal). Anybody used these or others? Would be great if I could still pull off the rubber without destroying it if ever needed in the future. Quote
sean1991olds Posted July 30, 2015 Author Report Posted July 30, 2015 FYI - I did end up using 3M 08008 Black Weatherstrip Adhesive. I think it will work well on my 2nd try, but first try I didn't hold the weatherstrip in place long enough for the adhesive to set. It takes about 5 mins or more.. might want to try clamping things next time. This stuff is stringy and can get all over the place real easy, especially on your hands. However when it sets, it has a pliable rubber feel and can be peeled off if you ever needed to re-do something for some reason. Quote
snippits Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 3M 08008 is what I use too. It's really good stuff. Get some wide painters tape, and use the tape to keep every thing in place. One thing I have learned about using the adhesive is make sure to use enough because it's easy to use too much, and even easier to use not enough. If you need to remove the adhesive or old adhesive, then I have had good results with 3M 08987 General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002NUO6K?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 sean1991olds 1 Quote
