Hey guys I know some of you seen my Facebook posts about this but for the ones that haven't here is the video for the test drive.

I don't suppose you could park it facing a predictable surface(wall, garage door, even a flat/straight road) and put one incandescent bulb in one housing and the LED in the other to see the differences side-by-side?

I could get around to doing the wall comparisons, but so many people have done those already but I specifically for a W-body I could. Yes it does have 320 lumens and they run at a 6000k light temp so easy on the eyes in my opinion anyway.

Here I thought you were going to say you made some LED projector mini quads. LolThose are nice, thanks for the the info. I've got some slightly under powered 5000k HID's and they're still a bit too blue for me.Those are not bad at all.

Do LEDs have a ballast or something like hids or are they plug and play?

Posted

not a ballast(there is no need for that kind of circuit with LEDs), but if I had to guess.... I would say that in the last couple of pics are constant-current drivers. at the very least, they could be just voltage regulators too, but that seems less likely.

The LED's that are in the 2-3000 lumen range have an extra magic box but are still plug n play. The ones for show or DRL's are not bright enough to actually see to drive with don't have the extra box, although some are getting closer to the 1000 lumens of the incandescent/ halogen.

If need be I can take pics of the units but they look just like the ebay pics and the balasts are tiny. so no worries there and like RoberOsaar said it still is plug and play no extra wires no extra B.S.

These look good. They look brighter than some of the other LED headlights I have seen.

Quite interesting. I might want to play around with this idea for my high beams. I have HID's in my mini quads but in the low beam. Haven't figured out the highs yet but this may be worth it.

Cool, I might grab a set of headlights for the GTP. I`ve already replaced the other front bulbs with cluster LEDs and I like the way they look. I may do the Cutlass as well but I like that slight yellowish tint given of by the regular bulbs. Makes it look like the old vintage car it is.:D

Got to see these in person at the last Northern IL meet a couple weekends ago. We were parked why in the back of the Fuddrucker's parking lot, and they managed to light up the wall of the restaurant about a hundred feet or so away. Surprisingly bright.

RareGMFam, how was the beam pattern though? Do they scatter like PNP HID kits or are they made for reflector based halogens?

I also have some in my 92 Z34. If you've ever driven a1st gen Lumina, you know the lights are almost useless at night! I had HIDs at first and the bulbs burned out too quick. So when i went to replace them, the salesman suggested the LEDs. I love them! Incandescent bulbs only have me about a 2 car length view. LEDs look like my hi beams are on and when my wife drive in front of me, she said it wasn't bad for her.

They're plug and play, with no extra ballast to mount and I've had them for a year now and they're still strong. Big thumbs up
