Lots of fuel; no start

spent most of yesterday on the car going thrhough a process of elimination and here are the results

1. ALl the spark plugs were fouled, too much fuel you could still smell it

2. The car cranks over sounding as though the timing is bad

-a note to this:all the timing marks line up...TDC at #1 piston, camflats up when they are suppose to be...

3. As the engine is turning over, there are horrible sounds of denotation i think...more like very loud popping

4. no electrical problem, all sparks getting...sparks :?

5. fuel pump working;fuses perfect

So wat could be the cause of the car no longer running? The engine turns over but it acts as though it were out of timing though the timing checks out perfect. The NGK V-Power spark plugs were completely fuel fouled so im stumped. What d you guys think

well on my cutty , my process of elimination is down to the CPS or the fuel injectors.....i'll prolly replace my spark plugs as well.....

A new CPS at Oreilly's here in town is $18 for me.

deff a fuel issue i believe for me..

i pulled the FUEL/ECM 15amp fuse and started the car...it caught! but quickly died

the car STILL sounded like the timing is way off but how if the marks and camflats are all right? COuld it be the timing chain perhaps?

I don't know much about these engines....just a noob.

BUt i'd still say check ur coil packs and make sure ur injectors are gettin the proper pulses.

Also, did you open the schrader valve with the key on the see if there is fuel pressure?

Could it be the timing chain perhaps?

If the timing chain was broken, the would have turned over at all.

If the timing chain was severely stretched (which I highly doubt), you'll more than likely run into internal problems.

I honestly don't believe is a severe timing issue, at least not yet.

Keep digging at it, and keep your head straight; you're so close!

about the timing chain, yeah i researched and came up with similar conclusions Redfox.

Aweb80, how can i check my fuel pressure regulator...looking at e-toolbox.com, it seems as though the fuel rails, injectors and FPR come as a unit. Could i take off the whole assembly and take it to a shop and have them examine it? Or should i buy the 9 bux assembly from Ebay swap it in and see wat happens?

GP34: If you are wondering if you have fuel pressure, take off the dohc plastic cover (10mm socket or wrench...i just did it 2 days ago)

On teh left side, right to the front left corner of the plenum, there is a valve that looks like a bicycle air valve. Use a rag and cover it, the press it w/something (screwdriver or wrench like me) and have someone turn the ingition on(for like 2 sec) (don't turn the motor over) and if the rag gets wet, ur fuel pump is ok and the filter is ok.

PM me if u have more questions, i'm going home now to chec, my CPS wires that go to the ICM (coil packs)

look at this thread if u have questions http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9706

did the fuel pressure test with the rag and yup, got some fuel on me too   :D

I managed to UNFLOOD the engine by turning the ignition key on, pressing down on the pedal all the way to WOT and the engine caught and ran until i quickly shut it off...IT SOUNDED HORRIBLE!

the sounded is best describing as loud clanking...i shut it off cuz i though fuck maybe im hitting valves or something...

i also checked the 3wire connector that leads to the crank sensor and did wat the GM manuals said...using an ohm meter at 2K and the ignition on, check connectors A and C and the OHMS should be between 900 - 1000 i believe...and i got 0 ohms so maybe there's my prob

in order to get any reading from the CPS you have to have someone turn the engine over while you test for voltage. I really think that this may possibly be your problem. Test it at the ICM that will also signify if there is a problem with the wiring from the CPS to the ICM.
