charliefrench2oo8
I recently acquired a Buick regal 3.1 limited and managed to get the key stuck on.. It's a joy to drive but it's kinda stuck at my house. Upon trying to take the steering column apart - I got the pivot pins out and all the way down to that step, but the metal plate wont seem to budge.. is this a car where you need to actually disconnect the linkage under the car? I'm a bit stuck and would love some advice. Thanks!
jman093
The part of the column I think you are calling the metal plate I'm pretty sure does not separate from the column even with the pivot pins removed. The Saginaw column in your application is a little different design than the normal one GM used in everything. What part of the column are you trying to reach here or what part do you think has failed? Since you say the car is stuck at your house with the key stuck on, I have to assume it is stuck in the on position and will not go to either start position or to off, and that you are after the lock cylinder. To remove the lock cylinder, the pivot pins do not need removed. In the lower right of the column there is a round piece about the size of a coin with a square hole in it. If pushed down and counterclockwise with a flatblade screwdriver or something it will pop out (there's a spring behind it). Pull the round cap and spring out, and down inside the whole you will see a Torx screw. Remove it and the lock cylinder can be removed.
