GrandPrix34 Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 http://store.summitracing.com/product.asp?p=386&searchtype=ecat anyone know if this or a similar produc would be needed to lubricate the cams+lifters before they are installed? or would simple motor oil do the tricK? Quote
Vegeta Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 Get some moly lube to keep the lifters in place when you put the carrier back in. Quote
GrandPrix34 Posted November 21, 2003 Author Report Posted November 21, 2003 in the manual it says to use fuel hose to hold the lifters..i though you could lift the cam carriers then individually remove the lifters? By the way, i got the cams+carriers cleaned up 2day wit some degreaser followed by WD40...look very nice and clean too! Quote
J Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 MR MOLY SUCKS! we have a guy from the freat white north that comes to our shop (mancini racing) and he stocks that shit, i'd use the stuff amde by crame or comp, whe i did the 383 stroke this summer we used comp camps assembly lube, it was nice and tick and stayed where you put it, but it was thin enough to move and provide lubrication. BTW MR Mol-piss may be decent but i have never had good luck with it. Quote
GrandPrix34 Posted November 21, 2003 Author Report Posted November 21, 2003 well that was the point, to prevent rust :-D Im not lubing them till they are ready to go in *edit* Ok, i wanted to know which piston is #1? I just corrected myself so im wondering something... Is the #1 piston, the one that is suppose to be at TDC the 1st one on the rear cam carrier looking at it from the front of the car? Sounds very stupid i know, but wanted to know this before i went and removed the carrier Quote
4spdz34 Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 wd-40................r u crazy? all does is disperse water. hence the wd. it provides only lubrication upon intial contact, hell why not piss on them it would do the same thing. i use a penatrating oil on things like that i prefer pb blaster, u should try it Quote

I said i used a degreaser, washed the degreaser off and used the Wd40 so i can DISPLACE the water and hence get rid of it to prevent rust...get it? I guess i didnt mention the washed off part, but the cams will not be lubed up till i buy either the Mr. Molly lube or the Crane Cam lube... Quote
4spdz34 Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 ya when u mention washing off with water it brings a whole new light to the situation Quote
GrandPrix34 Posted November 21, 2003 Author Report Posted November 21, 2003 haha, guess i am an asshat sorry for the confusion! :-D so, the #1 piston would be.... Quote
Robby1870 Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 haha, guess i am an asshat sorry for the confusion! :-D so, the #1 piston would be.... On the rear head, the one closest to the passenger fender is #1. Then #3 is beside it, and #5 beside that. The front head goes 2, 4, 6 from passenger side to drive side Quote
