topswapped Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 I have a 2001 Monte carlo ss with a top swap and the transmission needs replaced, it is stock, and I have a good transmission from a 99 oldsmobile silhouette with maybe 60k miles on it that I could put in there for basically free but I was wondering if it would work. Mine of course has the stock gearing and I found this chart that shows the silhouette has 3.29 gearing. Also it says that my transmission has ims and the olds doesn't. I dont even know what ims means? Quote
RobertISaar Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 IMS = internal mode switch, which..... I THINK means does away with the external range selector module that sits on top of the manual shaft. could be wrong. Quote
topswapped Posted December 18, 2014 Author Report Posted December 18, 2014 Well that explains what that little module looking box thing was then it should all fit up fine as long as I get the PCM reflashed for the 3.29 gearing Quote
Bake82 Posted December 18, 2014 Report Posted December 18, 2014 You might have to do some re-wiring of the transmission plug. You should get the wiring pinouts for the large round plug along with the connectors that go to the park/neutral safety switch. Quote
l67ss Posted December 18, 2014 Report Posted December 18, 2014 an 01 monte ss has 3.29s stock so no need for a reflash there. and yes ur car has an internal nss....the olds has external so wiring will be involved Quote
