will_s95 Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 I cannot figure out for the life of me how to get the wiper blades off of my car! I purchased new Rainx ones to replace the ones I have now that don't work well, but I cant get the darn things off! looks like there is some kind of lock or something on both sides of the blade hinge? Idk! The car is a 1995 Grand Prix. Quote
Psych0matt Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 I don't remember how those are "supposed" to come off, but I think on my last pair I had to break them off, and then the new ones have the little clip that holds them on Quote
94 olds vert Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 I had to break off my last pair as well. Not sure why but those old metal ones are hard to get off. Like Matt said the new ones have a plastic clip to hold them on. Quote
95 vert Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 Put a flat blade screwdriver in between the arm and blade and turn the blade. May take a little muscle but it should "pop" loose Quote
cutlassdude96 Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 should be able to just pull them off Quote
will_s95 Posted November 21, 2014 Author Report Posted November 21, 2014 Put a flat blade screwdriver in between the arm and blade and turn the blade.May take a little muscle but it should "pop" loose I tried that but then the screwdriver just dug into the plastic on the wiper arm... hmm... Maybe I'm just not pulling on them hard enough? Quote
94 olds vert Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 Bend the F8ck3rs till they brake, and put the new blades ones on. Quote
George Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 There is wound retention spring inside that type. Hold the arm with one hand, rotate the blade with the other while pulling as hard as you can. There does look to be some rust in there, might spay some PB Blaster or other penetrating oil in there as well. Maybe try pushing the stud through the wiper with a channel locks or a vise grips. The new ones may slide on the stud with a clip to lock it in place like mentioned above. Let us know what works. Quote
mfewtrail Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 I had some the other day that didn't want to release, so I cut them off with tin snips. Quote
primergray Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 When exactly did we go to replacing the entire blade instead of sliding out the old wiper rubber/sliding in the new refill? Kinda miss being able to do that. Hard as hell to find refills sometimes for the '80 Monte. Quote
Nas Escobar Posted November 23, 2014 Report Posted November 23, 2014 When it became cheaper to make the whole thing I would suppose. You can't take off the entire blade on the Monte Carlo? I would have upgraded to frame less by now. They're better looking and wipe better too. Quote
primergray Posted November 23, 2014 Report Posted November 23, 2014 I can, but the pins are small and really it's really hard to find blades in stainless/silver at all, much less ones that don't look like they should be on a bitchin Honda. Quote
Imp558 Posted November 24, 2014 Report Posted November 24, 2014 Brute force is the best answer like everybody says Quote
will_s95 Posted December 7, 2014 Author Report Posted December 7, 2014 Yeah, the only way to get them off was to break them. They were going in the garbage anyway. New Rainx wipers are sweet. Thanks guys! Quote
