Dannymik
I have looked through a bunch of post about Tranny stuff, but would like help on this post! I just got back from Autozone and bought the transmission filter kit that includes the new gasket. Then I bought a case (12quarts) of ATF Dex3 fluid. This Saturday(weather permitting) I'm planning on changing the filter, gasket, and flushing out as much fluid as possible. Now what order should I take on this job. I believe that I have to disconnect the tranny cooler line coming from the radiator. Is the connection a bitch to get off? Also for the gasket I bought some engine type grease stuff to lubricate it. Can anyone give me the step by step stuff? I have the 4T60 on my '95 Cutty. It costed me 12.99 for the filter/gasket and like $15-$16 for the fluid. Not bad considering Valvoline charges $99 for an automatic tranny flush and I don't think they even change the filter! Thank You for your help. 93CutlassSupreme
i did this in mine a few months ago drop the pan, let the fluid drain out. you won't get all the fluid but you will get some of the old crap out. clean the pan and let it dry. drop the old filter and put the new one on. the new filter might be hard to put in. then replace the gasket and put the pan back on i wouldn't torque flush my trans because i don't want the trans running with no fluid. 93CutlassSupreme
also, the 4T60E uses a reusable gasket, this comes from my pop's friend the GM Tech center in Flint i believe Mich. a pan drop vs a torque flush is safer for obvious reasons, and a pan drop replaces maybe half the fluid with a new filter don't abuse your trans and you won't have to worry
