For anyone not aware, I had bought a TGP in October, 2013 which had a few minor needs. I was chipping away at small projects. I bought a parts car a couple months ago. On July 21, 2014, my TGP burned out due to a PMIII accumulator failure. So now the parts car has become the fixer-upper. So I will update this tread as I finish little projects. It's not in horrible condition. I may sell it soon, as I found one with lower mileage that I might pick up. Here are some pics from when I brought it home :

 

 

The closer one is the one that burned, the one towards the left is the one I have still.

Good luck with the project! Your "parts car" looks to be a damn good foundation to start with. Would have kinda been heartbreaking to see it as a parts car. Sorry again about the one that burned.

Since I was using the car as parts initially, I had stripped a lot of parts out of it already before I planned to rebuild it. So since it was apart, everything was cleaned up and re-painted as needed before it went back on.

Unfortunately, I trimmed the sunroof hole about a 1/2 once too small, so there's not enough left to tuck it up into the groove around the sunroof. Oh well. I will either fix it sometime down the road, or sell it as it is. Sucks.

I bought it on ebay for $31 shipped. I used 3M glue, which was a little pricey. I think I'll use the cheaper glue next time. I'll likely do it again soon. It's a little bit of a pain to do, as you only have one shot to do it right. Once the material touches the backing, it won't come back up. You have to kinda roll it on gradually. These cars have a fairly contoured headliner too.

I refinished the entire wiper mechanism

This is the stereo that was in it when I got it. I'm pretty sure it belongs in a cutlass. ( If anyone wants it, let me know. I don't have a use for it)

I am putting an Alpine head unit in it that I had taken out of a previous car I owned.

And all 6 speakers have been replaced with these brand new Infinity Kappa speakers.

You did the right thing using the 3M glue. I did a headliner in a S15 Jimmy years ago, I used cheap glue that only lasted 2 weeks, the headliner started falling down. I redid it with 3M super 77 glue that was still holding strong when I sold it 6 yrs latter.

 

One of my favorite sayings: if you can't find the time to do it right the first time, when are you going to find the time to do it over again?

The 3M is $19 a can at the parts store. And it took 2 cans. Pricey. There was a permatex branded one for $12.

I used a combo of 77 and 90 and it fell back down after a week. luckily it didn't completely ruin it when it wouldn't peel off all the way and I re-did it with the hi-tack 76. I wouldn't use the hi-strength 90 or the 77. those two are never as good as the hi-tack for headliners.

 

I agree, you need 2 cans. you may only use 1 of them. but the propellant does not always last the whole can.

I painted the back side of the "Intercooled" part red, so it matches the rest of the dash.

It had to come off, so it got cleaned up and painted.

Just curious what steering wheel control interface you used. Once I get a nice stock wheel for mine I will need a adapter. The one we use at work is the Metra ASWC. They are easy to install and program, and they work great. But some older cars they do not work on, I could not get any to program to my 95 Bonneville, and I have a feeling the TGP is going to be the same way. A assume you used a PAC piece?

PAC SWI Jack. Obviously all the functions don't work. Fade/Balance & Scan. But they aren't really needed anyway.

Re-glued the small carpet area at the bottom, cleaned the entire piece, and re-glued the fabric at the top edge.
