2001goldGTP
1990 cutlass ME9: transaxle, auto 4 spd, THM 440, T4 driving along slips hard shift into 3rd followed by no 3rd. Car just revs like crazy. If i put it in first and second it works fine but if i put the selector in d or od it just doesnt go. I have a new filter and gasket i was going to put in. Any ideas? This is the stock trans rebuilt about 44k ago. i was going to look at a 91 international two door guess not now.
94 olds vert
I would still look at that
ManicMechanic
You need a rebuild or replacement trans. I got my 1991 Lumina coupe for free because that happened.
2001goldGTP
No. I was on the way to look at that 91. About 3 miles from home the trans acted like that. Its 730pm here and still 100 degrees. I will drop the pan tomorrow morning.
RobertISaar
if it seems like a really lost cause, perhaps keep the shifter in 2nd, run the car up to ~45+, then throw the shifter in 4th, see if 3rd can be skipped?

RobertISaar
with a normally functioning trans, it isn't too exciting.... it just does a 2-4 upshift(or a really quick 2-3, 3-4 sequence). with this? it might do the same, or it could refuse to engage 4th as well. Gibby
Dont ruin this for me, I was picturing some carnage in my head. LOL
2001goldGTP
I will post some pics when I get home. Its toast. It won't do 4th or 3rd. But it will run up above 60 but that's a lot of revs lol. There are big pieces in the pan. We have three wbodoes none are in running shape now. Two have bad transmissions and the intrigue is an over heating mystery.

WhatTheFehl
Well, I guess third is no longer "lost". Looks like you found it in the bottom of the pan.
2001goldGTP
Well, I guess third is no longer "lost". Looks like you found it in the bottom of the pan. you are right, I need to change the title of the thread lol. i have it in my hand. I was at oriely renting a spring compressor and i couldnt help but ask the guy if he had the lucas oil transmission fix stuff. he was like yes we carry that. So then I ask him if i took all the bits from the pan and put them back in the dipstick tube and poured the transmission fix in on top of that would that fix the trans, or wsa i to pour the bottle in first then the bits. he looked at me as if i had three heads and said i am not sure. so i just left with the spring compressor
