GTPer
I have a 97 Grand Prix supercharged as mentioned. Been wanting to start modding. Looking for an air intake but don't want to spend $250+ on an intake. It would really help if someone could lead me in the right direction as to a custom air intake for the 3.8 supercharged engine. 94 olds vert
Most people do a PVC to open cone air intake on these cars for less than 50 bucks. I bought a CAI on my local craigslist for like 75 bucks.
Nas Escobar
PVC pipe from home depot/lowes is a popular alternative to an aluminum replacement pipe for the accordion tube. Alternatively, you can get an eBay kit. Would you want a WAI or a CAI?
GTPer
What's a WAI? Ive only heard of CAI and FWI

GTPer
Oh yea. I'm just looking for someone who has actually done it to give specific materials used and instructions.
Nas Escobar
What's a WAI? Ive only heard of CAI and FWI Warm Air Intake. It's also known as a "Short Ram Intake". As far as acutally doing it goes, most of us get eBay kits or find used deals/junkyard deals. If you want to do a PVC intake, all you really need is a 45 degree 3" diameter 5 or so inch pipe. You will then need the cone, you can use K&N or Spectre; either or and then it's really where do you want to route it. Do you want it to suck warm engine air or cooler ambient air. You can also see if you can fab up a box for it, like this one It gives you the benefit of a CAI with the location of a WAI
GTPer
Isn't that just the Wizaird intake? I was thinking of getting the ZZP FWI but still have to pay for a new bottle and PCM tray on top of the $180 for just the intake. What do you guys have for an intake on your 3800? Whats the best air intake overall?
94 olds vert
I love my Wizaird intake. Gives a really nice whine when accelerating.
Nas Escobar
It's the wizard with a K&N. Some other members have it and like it, that's why I recommend it. If someone took measurements, you could probably make one of your own for $20 or so using parts from HD or Lowes.
GTPer
Anyone know if you actually need a new coolant recovery bottle for either the zzp fwi or jmb intake? I could understand for a wizaird since the big box goes under the hood but a fwi shouldn't need a 99 or newer coolant bottle right?
94 olds vert
1997 was different. So you might need to relocate the coolant bottle. If you do a FWI you might be able to go around it.
