04prixGT
Yesterday I spun a bearing in my '04 Prix GT and now I have a wicked rod knock. Does anyone have any suggestions for pulling the engine, where to buy parts. I'm fairly new to the 3800 game. I just need some tips and tricks to get started on my new project. Leadfoot
Where are you located? You would prob be best to find a compatible junkyard motor and just swap it in.
04prixGT
I'm in Northern Indiana. So far I've had friends suggesting both, getting a junk yard engine, or rebuilding my current. I cant decide which would be better. And this may be a strange question but would a series 2 Supercharged swap be worth my time/money if I can find the engine? Nas Escobar
I would recommend a yard engine from a rear ended car. I would also focus on trying to get a Series 3 engine instead of a Series 2. It's plug and play and only the internals were changed slightly. 2004 3800's were technically Series 3 but had some Series 2 components. They were all internal changes. rich_e777
When sourcing an engine/trans at a junkyard its always a gamble. You don't know the history nor conditions. If it were MY car I would be ordering a dealership manual and start collecting gaskets/ fluids and anything else one might suspects needs replacing on my way down into the depths of a 90degree V6. Yeah it might be a process but its just metal not magic.
Imp558
In theory you could do both, swap in an engine from a yard so it's driveable, then slowly build the original engine. Buying time with the used engine to collect funds for a good machine shop, maybe a nicer cam and PCM tune or a topswap since you mentioned the supercharger.
