sas4ever
I have 1998 grand prix gt 156,xxx it started to overheat on my way to work and pulled over but I guess it was too late and the motor is seized wont start and when I put a socket to the crank it wont turn it just rocks the entire motor.. so I am trying to make the decision of what to do.. also any likely causes of what broke?? right now im looking at 700 for a motor and swap myself 1100 for someone to swap motor and trans with warranty bail on it and buy something else(don't want to love the car!!!) also not sure if these are reasonable rates??I don't mind doing the swap but for the warranty it may be worth it... PLEASE ALL FEEDBACK WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!
tornado_735
Are you sure that you didn't blow a lower intake manifold gasket and hydrolock the engine? What does the oil look like? If it looks like a milkshake, then you're in deep shit. If it looks normal, pull the spark plugs and try again. If it spins over and coolant shoots out of the plug holes, it was hydrolocked. Hell, before you even try that, pull the serpentine belt off and try to spin the crank again. I had an A/C Compresser lock up on a LeSabre with the same engine, and it locked up it up tighter than shit. Starter wouldn't even turn it over. Maybe the water pump locked up? RobertISaar
i would also check the oil before doing anything else. milkshake or copper glitter and you're not going to be happy.
sas4ever
I checked the oil and it's normal..but it's had cooling issues so Idk if a water pump locked up or what..haven't torn into it cuz the gasket set top to bottom is like 350 Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
95 vert
Like tornado said, pull the spark plugs and see if it turns over. Upper intake failure and coolant in the cylinders is very common with these cars. I've saved several engines that had this issue. New replacement upper intake is around 100-150 bucks
