northcarolinaman
Sunday my car had to be towed because it started "screeching" very loudly and I could smell smoke. The verdict is that I need to replace components in the clutch. Center Force does not make a full clutch kit for my car. Phoenix, Zoom Performance, RhinoPac, Exedy, Centric, Clutchnet, and Valeo do. Spec offers Stage 1 to 4 also...but they are expensive. What is the best clutch kit for the Getrag 284 in a 1992 Lumina Z34? I am not looking for a drag car...mine is a daily driver that I would like to perform and last. Thanks, Tom
ss427
I ran a brute power in my 91 GP SE for about 80,000 miles, and the thing still bites hard under hard shifting conditions. The box said brute power with the borg warner logo, but it was a Valeo disc and had Daikin throwout bearing. I think most of the stuff is the same and just put into different boxes, as there is no way there are seven different manufacturers making their own clutch kits, especially for such a narrow market as 284 W's. Even an ACDelco boxed kit I recently picked up had the same exact stuff as the brute power kit, including a Valeo disc.
Psych0matt
I know a few people around here are running spec clutches, and I believe they make their own, but as said before I would be willing to bet the rest are just repackaged and are all the same. I need this information too because I want to get a new clutch in the next few years
White93z34
I've been running the Spec stage 2 in my z34 for several years and put about 15,000 miles on it. I'm pretty happy with it. It grabs firmly but its not too much for my stock engine, no annoying chattering. Very nice daily drivable clutch. Granted they are around $700 these days though. Just don't expect much if anything from Spec in the lines of customer service, its somewhere between non-existent and awful. They also tend to make a good bit of noise when you first start the car, it goes away after a couple miles driving though.
outonthetiles
Spec stage 3+ in my 284 swapped Impala holds whatever power I can give it and the pedal isn't too stiff, although it is very chattery and either on or off. I would recommend something a little less extreme for a DD. +1 on spec's customer service being non existent, but they do make a good clutch. GOT2B GM
Spec stage 2 is the way to go
GOT2B GM
I have a Spec Stage 2+ in my 282 swapped 92 GTP and would not recommend it..... its too grabby and chattery for a stock engine. Just a regular Stage 2 is what it'll get next time
GP1138
I'm interested in this as well, and additionally in anyone's experiences with a company other than SPEC -- $600 for a clutch may break my bank if my clutch is too worn to be reused. Edit: So, RockAuto presents several choices for this application:

AUTOPART INTERNATIONAL Part # PRFMU700451 New Clutch Kit; DIAPHRAGM - 9 11/16 X 23T X 1 - PULL TYPE CLUTCH; GT Model [Wholesaler Closeout -- 30 Day Warranty] (Only 1 Remaining)

$101.79

BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0616062 Clutch Kit 9-3/4" DIA - SPLINE DIA 1" - 23 SPLINES - 246MM DIA; GT Model [Wholesaler Closeout -- 30 Day Warranty]

$254.79

EXEDY Part # 04127 Pull Type,; Disc mm 246; Disc in 9-5/8; Splines Dia 1; Splines 23

$297.79

AMS AUTOMOTIVE Part # 04127 9.688" X 1.000" X 23T Flywheel Spec: FLAT (Only 4 Remaining)

$322.79

SACHS Part # K7004501 Standard; Pull Type; Outer Diam: 9 11/16; Inner Diam: 1; TEETH:23T

* Stocked in outlying warehouse--shipping delayed up to 1 business day

$460.79

VALEO Part # 52462202 Pull Type Unit; Disc Size:9 11/16 x 1 x 23 (Only 2 Remaining)

* Stocked in outlying warehouse--shipping delayed up to 1 business day

$476.79

I'm not sure I'd want the $100 special, but I'm considering the Exedy... if I can find out more info about it. carkhz316
Just an FYI for anyone, I talked to Spec technical support some time ago and they told me that Exedy makes their clutches for them. Not sure what they do after that, but that's what iI was told
19Cutlass94
Bully clutch. Only clutch I'll ever run. Fuck them spec clutches. Sent from my iPhone
carkhz316
Where do you get these Bully clutches and will they handle a L67 and beyond?
19Cutlass94
http://bullyclutch.com/ I buy them from here: http://www.ultrarev.com/ They are a little more expensive than spec clutches, but their customer service is top notch. You call them, they answer and help you with all the questions you have. They will easily handle an L67.
Andrew
I wouldnt hesitate to get that Exedy, but i think i went Sachs, which is the OEM brand for alot of german cars.
jman093
The reason is the Exedy is cheap is because it was a closeout. Gotta love the amount of closeout stuff one can get on rockauto.
GP1138
I will likely be ordering it next week -- I get my last check from my previous job, it will be the last "spare" money I have until tax time next year. If I'm going to fix this car, it's going to be done right.
