pitzel
Okay, due to some sheer stupidity, I sheered one of the bolts right off. Any pointers on how to remove it? I can access the top from inside the trunk, but not sure which direction would be optimal to try and turn it, if at all, with vice grips. If this happened to you, what would you do? Michael Savage
Basically if you can turn it turn out out as best you can either ways fine as long as the complete head is gone. If possible try drilling the center of the screw with the biggest possible bit and weaken it then try turn it out. Also once it's as far out as possible you can try hammering it out with something a little smaller than the screw. If all else fail pick up a set of the As Seen On TV stripped screw/bolt sets at walmart it's $20 but they do work not always in the 10 second claim. pitzel
Yeah complete head is obliterated. Might be able to put 2 nuts on it, and put a wrench on it, though working in the trunk is a PITA. Argh, its grade 8 stuff in the most awkward of places . All this trouble to install my new KYB's, lol. I just needed to vent, collect my mind, so thanks for the reply, I have a few things to try tomorrow.
pitzel
Was able to turn it out by getting into the trunk, and putting 2 nuts on it and turning. Threads were knackered, but I secured the other end with a nut and lockwasher with new bolts. Phew, dodged a bullet there . The new KYB's are awesome! intern8tion9l
I did mine through the trunk as well with vise grips
pitzel
I did mine through the trunk as well with vise grips Yeah tried that, couldn't get the vice grips onto those threads (not wanting to damage the threads themselves, as that would limit further options). But praise Jesus that it all worked out for me, close call, lol.
