GP1138
Ok. I bought an aftermarket keyless entry system from Pep Boys (Bulldog Security brand). It works great, but I wired it up the way I wanted to, rather than under the dash. The box is in the left door panel, wired to the driver's door lock plug. When I was wiring it up, I downloaded and printed the universal wiring spec for my car from bulldogsecurity.com. It is used for remote start/keyless/security systems, so it had the wire colors for the starter and ignition wires. This got me thinking. I put the wire for the unlock circuit to the first ignition wire, and hit the remote button. I hear my fuel pump buzz and the chime goes off. So I get crafty, and decide to hook that wire to my starter. I do so, hit the button and hear a SNAP. The inline fuse blew. <dumb question> If I put a bigger fuse in there, would I be able to use this to start my car?? What kind of fuse? Would I have to wire buttons in sequence, and press them in order, like I was cycling the key from OFF-ON-START-RUN or something? </dumb question> I was playing around with it. By plugging it into different things, I could make my heater come on, all kinds of different shit. I wanna wire it up to my horn, that would be hilarious. Basically the solenoid inside of the box closes the circuit for about two seconds, so if I could wire it up to the starter (and maybe the ignition wires at the same time) I could rig myself up a poor-man's remote starter. sonyman87
LOL your full of ideas and i like your thinking ! ok first off you got a bulldog! the bigest POS in the world IMO.... as far as turning on accesories sure thing not a problem but starting the car is a compltely different animal The problem is if you press the button its going to engage the started for what you say 2 seconds.. what if the car dosnt start! do it again.. ok so it starts the car eventualy...... Then you have the problem of bumbing the button.. there is no sensors to keep it from turning on when the car is on.. bye bye starter or flywheel There is alot of variables about this remote start system you think you could have. IMO if you want remote start buy the real thing. otherwise have fun playing with accesories:) horns and flashers are good ones:) also if you have neons run it off of that. just an idea. when you say you hooked it up to the starter! that thing takes like 50amps! .. try the cylinoid that runs the starter, you may get further. also you have to worry about security features and basicly hotwire the car. i had a cheep bulldog alarm system once in my lebaron. lol the 20dollor special one at walmart.. RIP i went swiming at a friends house and had my keys in my swimsuit pocket. lol the remote was dead. although i still have the shitty unit up in the attic collection dust. the shock sensor on that thing SUCKED! It took getting hit with a baseball hat to set it off lol. not the car the unit itself. lol
Justin
Here's the deal. It takes more than the 5-10 amps the remote box is rated at. You could put a relay in the circuit, so your box is just clicking a relay over, which cranks the car. Then you can crank it over until your hearts content. It won't start, but it'll crank. You need to have your ignition wire powered up for it to run, otherwise no spark, no fuel, no pcm, no nothing. Why don't you just buy a remote starter, they're not that expensive, and then you'd be set.
