lugorobert
Hi guys, the car is a 98 riviera 3800 series 2 supercharged 276k, well i had the coupler rattle, pulled the nose off replaced the coupler and new oil. no more rattle!! i also checked for play (up or down, in or out on the nose) and its all very tight. i turned the supercharger by hand and listened and it sounded and felt smooth. maybe im paranoid but when i listen to the car idle i can hear noise from the supercharger, im not sure how to describe it, maybe like a chatter? its a very light sound, it sounds mechanical, i used zzperformance sc oil 6oz. the sound does not increase or get louder when revved. is this just the normal mechanical sound of the supercharger? again this is not a rattle more of a very very light chatter. thanks for any input. Imp558
Harbor freight sells mechanic stethoscopes super cheap, other guys put a screwdriver to their ear (I have longer hair so that close to moving parts is bad) anyway that can really help to pinpoint sounds. I thought I had lifter tick, turned out to be noisy injector.

I used a screw driver to get a good listen, it sounds as if it is coming from the supercharger impellers definitely not from the nose, its kind of a click sound but very faint it is still there if i bring the rpms up to 800 or so but dissipates around 1000. Euro
I think I know what you're talking about. It may be the injectors as well, I've heard of them having a slight "tick." I have the same sound in my car, but I chalked it up to normal noise. I don't think you need to worry. Unless of course you hear it get audibly louder. Michael Savage
The Bosch 3.8 SC injectors make a very large tick pull one and jump it using a fire alarm battery and you'll hear it
lugorobert
Yeah the more and more videos i listen to of these cars running i can hear it in other motors. i just get paranoid and i am very picky haha. i have a modular pulley system on the way to drop to a 3.5 pulley a u-bend delete, 160 drilled thermostat, ngk tr-6 plugs, and a 3.5in tensioner pulley and i dont want anything coming apart from the added boost/power. thanks for all your help guys. another quick question, the zzperformance sc oil says its the perfect amount, but i read all over that the oil should come to the bottom of the threads on the fill hole, i added the whole 6oz bottle of oil but it definitely does not come up to the fill plug, should i add a little more?
