93CutlassSupreme
do you guys ever have troube getting heat from the heater on a cold day? It takes for ever to get heat in the interior from a cold start. i was just wondering if this is a common problem or if i have a stuck open thermostat or another problem
Robby1870
That is normal. When the motor gets to operating temp, you will have full heat, since thats where the heating system gets its heat from (or the coolant that is)
93CutlassSupreme
ok thats what i thought i am used to driving cars with large displacement engines that build heat quickly. the 3.1 takes a while to warm up thanks
91cutty
It shouldn't take that long to heat up. Even the days that hit -30*C last year, my car would be quite warm in about 7 minutes of driving.

Lee
seven minutes sounds about right for me. Unless I get on the freeway right away. I'm a half mile from it.

SmokesGTP
Yeah it seems the smaller the engine usually the faster it heats up. My moms galant is warm in about 2 minutes of driving.

joey b
replace the thermostat and you'll have that figured out. It only costs about 10 bucks. Don't forget to bleed the cooling system.

Justin
Jeezus, doesn't anyone let their cars warm up anymore? Sounds like you all need to invest in remote starters.
topless94style
Jeezus, doesn't anyone let their cars warm up anymore? Sounds like you all need to invest in remote starters. I got one!!! I just have to learn that now i got my car running perfect and heating quickly, to let it warm up. Before when i had the intake gasket leak i would warm it up a good 15-20min before i left. Now its 5 if im lucky. It sounds so sweet now that it just purrs, no rough idle no nothing. Except the ecm codes.
joey b
coming from the thermostat housing, On top for the 3.1 MPFI is a small bolt type of contraption. YOu will have to run the car to temp to allow the thermostat to open. Have that valve open (coolant wont' shoot out all over). When it no longer dribbles and is a constant stream it is blead. Look around for all other similar valves and repeat.
