3800 motor swap

Recommended Posts

I'm wanting to put a 3800 supercharged motor in my 95 regal, any suggestions on what motor and trans to use and what kind of issues I might run into.

Everything is here, somewhere, you just have to look around.

If you haven't bought an L67 yet the '98 and up are supposed to have better heads.

The wiring harness will need mods, the correct PCM calibrated,

The CV shafts need cobbled together if you run a 4T65, which most of us would,

I'm not terribly familiar with the obd-I L67, but it may be simpler in an obd-I car

Are the motor mounts the same?

Yup same mounts :). Id stick with 98+ 3800s, to overcome obd1 hiccup you just have to rewire data port :)

Kind of, there are 2 wires that need run to the DLC to put the new one on, 2&16

Gotcha ;) Thanks man! Now transmission and cv joints? I can't just bolt motor and tranny in?

Different shafts, spend the next couple days reading on the forum and you'll find 99% of what you need right here. I discussed the CV stuff I had to go through a while back, like last fall or summer if you search my post. This forum's FAQ sections kicks ass too, I get lost in there for hours still.

Cool, I appreciate it.

Yep you gotta convert from OBD1 to OBD2 if you get a motor from a 96 or newer car. The axles probably have to be a combo of an L67 axle and your stock axle, but do some reading on that. The wiring harness is another iffy one, you MIGHT be able to use a 98-99 Monte Carlo Z34 or Lumina LTZ harness, but I'm not sure on that either. I've done a 99 L67 swap on a 96 Monte.

Can use 98-99 ltz/z34 harness ok after swapping a few wires on c100. Can also use driver side cv axle from same car :)

I think the 95 engine bay is backwards, or is it my imagination? Battery on the passenger's side.

PCM? Is that on the driver's side too? I remember something is opposite

I read somewhere earlier that I can bolt on a supercharger to my L27 from a L67, any truth to this?

Guys topswap L36 engines, Not sure if the block and all are the same. My L67 is coming out when I rebuild my old L36 and topswap it.

Wait a min, youre planning on pulling your 97 buick l67 and replacing iy with a topswapped l36 eventually? Me too! :)

Yeah, I scored a good set of 98 heads, verified the castings on them already. That's later, when I'm ready to do the cam and stuff. Right now I want to make it run as clean as I can and do the suspension, body and interior. Kind of looking back at that thing with the dual injector bungs again, that second set could be methanol injection.
