dodgethis
I was out changing my oil in my car and when I pulled out the oil plug, the magnetic part had chipped off. I guess I can understand why it chipped it off, with the expansion and contraction of the heat of the engine. However, if it has chipped off, where is there other piece sitting? Am I safe to believe its magnetically adhered to the floor of the pan, and no worry is needed? Another thing that occurred that caused for concern is when I pulled out the oil filter. Usually when I change oil filter, A substantial amount of oil will fall out of the filter. When I did it this round, not much came out. There was some, but not a lot. There wasn't any chunks of metal or metal pieces inside the filter. Do I need to take a chill pill, or has something like this happened before to someone else? Night Fury
I wouldn't worry at all about the oil filter and very little about the magnet. I'd probably at least stick my pinky finger in the hole and feel around for it though

tornado_735
Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it comes out, good. If not, no worries. Unless you start hearing the lifters tapping out morse code, I'd say the oil filter issue is a...well, non-issue.

Venom
Did you change the oil while the engine was still warm or cold. You always want to warm the engine up for a few min before pulling the drain plug and filter.
dodgethis
Did you change the oil while the engine was still warm or cold. You always want to warm the engine up for a few min before pulling the drain plug and filter. Oh yea, It was done hot. It was never done cold. I have found that I have a bad oil leak, besides the oil drive pump seal (which was replaced) has anyone done a 3100 oil pan gasket? Any writeup to aid in that? AFAIK, it involves dropping the subframe. I'm not absolutely 100% on that though.
