IfinishB4u
Hi, I am new here but have been on clubgp for a while, although you guys seem to have more 3.4 owners over here so I thought you might be able to help a little more. I have a '95 GP SE with the 3100 and When I blew the intake gasket at 167k, I also spun 2 rod bearings. and the sludge of oil/coolant is everywhere in the motor. I was able to get my hands on a perfect RUNNING condition '92 cutlass 4-door with the 3.4 DOHC with 91k miles for only $200. I was wondering how difficult it is going to be to do this engine swap. Do I need to worry about putting my tranny on the older motor or does the '92 cutty have the 4t-60e? Also how about motor mounts, and wiring harnesses? Thank you very mch in advance, and I will be hanging around the board quite a bit now. -Nick-
topless94style
You will need the harness and computer from the LQ1 im pretty sure on that one. the 92 should have the 4t60e, but i think you will still need the harness from the LQ1? I am guessing new motor mounts and the dogbone for the LQ1 also. I have gained all this info from this site, if I am wrong correct me. please. Redfox340
IfinishB4u, welcome! An OBDI DOHC swap from a OBDII 3100 SFI is going to be a bit more chanelleging since you're reversing the process. However, if you're determined, you'll need to swap the entire powertrain (engine / tranny). Along with all the ECM and the donor wiring from the DOHC; you'll need to integrate it into your existing components. Also, you still may need to swap out the entire sub-frame; that's something to do research on. Do-able? Yes. Practicle? Probably not. You may have better chances getting the DOHC running in better status in the Cutlass. Just my personal input; take on what you can do! - Erik
Dannymik
Welcome to the board, boy have you started out with a bang! Would the 3400 be easier to swap for a 3100 vs the 3.4?
godofthunder
yes....it would, as i have heard. I personally plan to take that route when this engine goes....rather than the DOHC or the boat L67. While i want the 3.8 s/c...it just seems like to much work, and id rather just buy the dang GTP jon
