Robby1870 Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 Whats wrong with the pistons? Quote
Marcus18 Posted November 14, 2003 Author Report Posted November 14, 2003 just that they don't say anything aboutthem being reinforced. I think I'm going to sprng for the rering kit which includes all the bearings for $133. 145000 miles on the clock. marcus Quote
RedZMonte Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 ALL OF THAT IS AVALIBLE AT ADVANCED AUTO PARTS. Quote

slick Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 Hey, i get that magazine. I was gonna say something about that, but i kept forgetting to. Quote
The Burning Rom Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 IIRC the stock TGP pistons (MAHLE) not only have an extra ring. They also have larger pin bosses, a skirt below the wrist pin, a 2" oil return, and seem to be built a little tougher overall. Quote

Yeah, I knew they were Mahle, but not the other stuff.........good to know! Quote
Chris A Posted November 15, 2003 Report Posted November 15, 2003 At the very least the Mahle pistons are far superior to any aftermarket piston. Quote
SleeperRed90TGp Posted November 15, 2003 Report Posted November 15, 2003 Mahle pistons don't have an extra ring. There a standard 3 ring piston. The 4th ring myth is not a ring at all, its a band. It doesen't even go all the way around the piston. Picture it as 2 segments of a thick hose clamp cast in the inside of the piston skirt. Here's the difference. Mahle / TRW Skirt below the wrist pin. Yes / no. Steel band cast in skirt between and into pin bosses. yes / no Huge pin bosses. Yes / no. Oil return per side. 2’’ / 1’’. Weight 494-496 g / ? felt lighter. Appearance Stout / like for a toy. Cost 98 / 120-130 Don’t know that the TRW pistons wouldn’t be fine. That’s the problem, just don’t know. I decided not to use them. Jud Quote
