has anyone ever thought of converting the front headlights on a cutlass to look like the front headlights on a BMW for example?

heres a pic:

see how the actually lights are kinda pushed back and behind the clear plastic and there is kindof an outline made by the red plastic on the outside that kinda gives it a contoured look? i think this looks really cool, even if i could get my headlights to have the clear plastic on the lights instead of the crap thats on there now you cant see through, its like pleated on the inside or something but its not clear like those ones are in the pic, anyone know how to get the plastic clear or get clear plastic? any ideas? comments, suggestions? it would be very appreciated, thanks

I know the honda guys use real bmw lighte and just modify the car till they fit but that wont work on cutlass

you could try placing your existing lightes in a vacum frame and make a crear plastic mold then just use 2 round fog light as your lightes

thats the only way I can think of pulling that off ....if I can finde the name of those vacume things I'm talking bout I'll post it but they always use one on that show on discovery channel miyth busters........

but I saw round blue fog lightes on sale at Oreily's autto parts for $24.99 yesterday

Fog lights would be a bad idea due to the way the lense is made. BUT driving lights would be a good idea. Like the blazertech 3200s. You'd have to figure out how to get some high-beam/low-beam action though. :? Possibly a different wattage bulb.

well, i think they're calling it rice, because their definition of rice, is anything that you spend money on, yet doesn't do the car any good... i.e. appearance 'enhancers'. Rice. Remember, it doesn't have to be japanese to be rice!

There are a few Eldorados on car domain that have BMW angel eye headlight conversions. Maybe some one could contact them to find out how it was done. I think the headlights on the BMW look pretty cool at night. Also, wouldn't having two round lights on the front bring back the look of Cutlass's from the late 60's to early 70's? Think heritage :) If it can be done, I'd like to see it.

I don't like the idea and I don't like those BMW lights, but then I think the current BMW 5 and 7-series look like ASS.

Anyway, you might be able to modify some projector lights for an 88-98 body style Chevy/GMC fullsize truck to fit. They are close in size to the Cutty headlights, although flatter... maybe heat and bend some clear plexi and epoxy them to the fronts of the headlights to make the curvature match. Then spray can your contour outline.

Phantom, if what you really like is the clear outer lens, why don't you just remove the stock one, find some clear plastic that you can mold or bend, and put it in the place of the stock stuff. Wouldn't that work? For the removal and re-installation part, look to people who've done the clear corner light conversion on their Buick Regal's.

Seems borderline ricey to me, but that's not my definition. A paint job is not ricey, nor is a tasteful spoiler, or good looking rims. To me, rice is defined by the new (and ugly) desings we're seeing in cars today. Clear tail-lights are ugly, but they're flashy, so we see lots of them. Huge wings are ugly, but again, flashy, so they're everywhere. Hydraulics/switches are stupid, but they're flashy, so people like them. I could go on, but I think you understand my definition.

i was considering doing this to my car, but it would take a lot of trial and error and bodywork and money, all of which i wasn't ready to give up for this mod at the moment.

anyways i will share my thoughts on this project.... i was thinking of using cadillac sts headlights, which use a factory projector style headlight and are nearly the same size as the cutlass headlights.

the only place where you would have trouble, is the corner marker lights... the factory ones would have to come out, the metal would have to be grinded down and some body work would have to be done to make the fit and finish right. the cadillac sts lights come with the side marker lights built in, so you would use those instead of the factory ones.

as far as making your own projector style headlights....

i have already looked into getting a clear "plastic" that could be molded for the headlights to make some sort of projector style lamp, but the clear plastic used for headlights is lexan which is strong, less scratch resistant than regular plexiglass, and much more costly.

there is a plastic manufacturer i deal with that i get my plexi and plastics from that said they would be able to make me a lens providing i supply them with a mold, but again that takes time and money, and this mod was not one of my higher priorities.

hope i have helped in any way, maybe someone can actually go through with this mod cause i think it would look sweet. good luck to whoever tries
