dodgethis
Hey has anyone had this similar affect? On the 98 Lumina, I routinely have issues with trying to get it to start. I always turn the key to let the fuel pump prime, and then try to start it, but its misses the first try. Most of the time I hold the throttle slightly down and it will fire. This is getting old. Sometimes when im trying to get it to fire, it will blow the lines out of the purge solenoid and will just miss and spit, and basically not happy at all. What I am wanting to know, would a new purge solenoid "grab" the vacuum lines at a snug fit? I wonder if the old rubber gaskets off the solenoid is getting worn out, or does the W-body Family just tape the lines so they don't fall out for the 3100. Throttle body cleaner? perhaps for the hard to start issue? I do not have any codes, but of course it will throw one when i loose the lines to the purge solenoid. As always thanks guys for the input. l67ss
M 97 monte does this sometimes. Pretty sure its cause my fuel pump is a lil on the weak side. I swapped to a port n polished 3400 tb with no change so i doubt cleaning tb will help(wont hurt tho)
RobertISaar
the lines blowing off of the purge solenoid would indicate that there is pressure building in the intake.... so some kind of backfiring is happening. that alone is a problem that NEEDS correction, it isn't L36-blow-apart-the-manifold serious, but it isn't good at all. once that gets figured out..... i would either replace that section of vacuum line or trim it a bit to get fresh rubber onto the port nipples. one of them broke on mine to where the rubber just barely grabs onto the remaining plastic and i haven't had issues, but the bellowed section does a good job of keeping the line in place. otherwise, hose clamp? nelliott
Agreed. The lines blowing off shouldn't be happening. You could put on a hose clamp or zip tie but I would be more worried about why it's happening in the first place. However, unless I'm mistaken, a purge solenoid issue should not be causing a problem with starting or running. It's strictly an emissions device. For fun i'll look in the throttle body and see whats going on. I have seen the youtube video where on a 3100 plenum, where the EGR mates there was carbon build up, and in other orifices on the plenum. This may need to be looked at. the lines blowing off of the purge solenoid would indicate that there is pressure building in the intake.... so some kind of backfiring is happening. that alone is a problem that NEEDS correction, it isn't L36-blow-apart-the-manifold serious, but it isn't good at all. once that gets figured out..... i would either replace that section of vacuum line or trim it a bit to get fresh rubber onto the port nipples. one of them broke on mine to where the rubber just barely grabs onto the remaining plastic and i haven't had issues, but the bellowed section does a good job of keeping the line in place. otherwise, hose clamp? Rob, Thanks for giving me the thought that its "not normal, nor good at all" the only thing I could possibly think of, besides looking into the fuel pump, check the fuel injectors to see if they are within tolerance (resistance or amps), and see if maybe they are getting tired. I can guess with all that fuel being dumped and it can't start as i'm trying to get it to turn over, isn't good for the catalytic converter. Agreed. The lines blowing off shouldn't be happening. Completely agree regarding its strictly an emissions device. I can only thing fuel related, as I have mentioned I don't have any codes. Nothing is pointing to anything. I'm sure however, if it gets bad enough it will create a cascade of other problems. I'll keep yall posted. Also, I'll used the search button to find tolerances for the injectors, Fuel pump, and fuel pressure test. Hopefully somethings got to come out.
