brian89gp
what would it take to shoe-horn a 4t80 in a w-body? I am aware of the electrical issues but nothing else. And i know this has been brought up many times before but i can't seem to find those posts.

eclipse5302
I've seen this before... 1.It won't fit in the subframe, unless you make your own subframe. 2.I think it will bolt up to the engine, but the flywheel may need to be custom. 3.And I'm not even going to get into the electronics about it. I'd check in to the Fiero guys...they might be able to help you if anyone can. BTW, wasn't it you who was working on a 4T60-E trans controller for non -E computers? Jason 1. i don't care, as long as it doesn't get in the way of the alt or steering rack i consider it doable. What i really need to know is where on the subframe. I think i am that person. I'm making (almost done) so i control the trans, shifter in 2nd it will stay in second, period. Also the option of upshift and downshift buttons. So wiring i can do. From what i have seen the wiring is the same for the 4t65 wich in all essance a 4t60e with an electronic modulator instead of vacuum. GnatGoSplat
It won't clear the rear crossmember of the subframe, and problem with that is that's what the rack is mounted to. I believe it also won't clear the steering rack itself, and also won't clear the brake vacuum booster.
LukeZ34
If your looking for a tranny that will handle more power, then I dunno if this helps you any.. but I found this on Tom Wright's forum a while back. http://pub25.ezboard.com/fgmwbodyforum28426frm1.showMessage?topicID=72.topic

TurboGTU
I cain't seem to find the link you provided about the 80e. Im going to attempt to use one as the Beretta is getting the custom 4t60. You can beef up your 4t60 or 60-e by using 4t65-e or 4t65-eHD parts. Use the whole 2nd clutch drum, Reaction shell and 3rd, final carrier into the 4t60. The shell is way stronger than the 4t60s and Es trans. Also the newer 03 4t65-hd had diode sprags. SO that will diffenetly beef up a 60-e. 2nd pack is way bigger. You can use blue plates too or Reds. On stock 4t60s and 60-e you anly get reds on 2nd pack from alto and nothing else. On the differential side, you can try using a 60-e hd differential and carrier or stick with the stock unit if its still good and is has the larger spider gears. I will try to get a link to my pictures. It will take some slight mods on the 60 and almost a direct fit on the 60-e. Forget about 4th though. Your still stuck with one or two clutches so the 65-es 4th shaft and pack isn't needed. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/TurboGTU/4t65vs440t4/Picture049.jpg http://www.tgpforums.com/index.php?topic=3300.
TurboGTU
Hey Manic, I've been here and on the web for a long while now. Just been silent for a long time. Getting a home can do that. Cars just collect dust. I just looked at my cradle and brake system. I was a bit worried. I then took a 440-t4 (4t60) empy shell and took some raw measurements and compred it to the 80-e. IT should fit. I looked again at the engine bay and cradle, rack and it all should fit. Im going to have to take dubble mesurements of the shalfts. Good thing I got them with the 80-e. ITs off a 95 Aurora. If anything, I'll swap the the TGP outer cv joint with the 80 inner and intermediate cv axles. The good thing is that the 80e torque converter nose fits into the 3.1s crank jurnal. So I'll just have to drill my flywheel for the 4 bolt torque converter. I was going to make the TGP trans stronger but my funds are limited. This will have to do. It was 1/2 price sale at the local Pick and pull. My instict is telling me that this trans is a newer 96,97 model instead of the bell housing weak pre 95. It should be the 3.71 final drive trans. Thats a giant leap from 3.33.
