l67ss
As long as the alternator plugs in itll work, correct? Using a 98 z34 engine harness and a 2003 lesabre alternator. Thanks
Nas Escobar
That sounds right.
l67ss
Was wondering because i cross referenced part #s on oreillys websit with an 02 gp gt. Didnt match. But they used the same replacement plug, hence the confusion
Nas Escobar
The Lesabre may be a higher output one.
l67ss
The website claims roughly the same total output, mebbe it puts out more amps at idle?
Nas Escobar
It looks like the plastic where the diode is might be different. Do you have the clip with the 3 or 4 wires on the alternator or just the one that bolts on?

Imp558
Need to be careful when swapping alternators around. Some GM alternators are charged through the charge indicator, And others are modulated directly out of the computer. Wouldn't be good to mix and match and get them wrong. RobertISaar
as far as i can tell, all OBD2 vehicles use the PCM for alternator operation. if not all, most of them do. shouldn't matter though, from what i can tell, the PCMs that do that have an internal load resistor to simulate the load of a bulb and should the PCM not like the voltage signal it is seeing, then it will turn the VOLTS light on. l67ss
So does that mean that my alternator will work? as far as i can tell, all OBD2 vehicles use the PCM for alternator operation. if not all, most of them do. shouldn't matter though, from what i can tell, the PCMs that do that have an internal load resistor to simulate the load of a bulb and should the PCM not like the voltage signal it is seeing, then it will turn the VOLTS light on. RobertISaar
http://imgur.com/VazRCFl,iPMQXru first image is the Z34 harness, only uses/needs the lamp terminal connected and the charge wire, obviously. second is the 03 lesabre, the equivalent pin is B. C is used by the PCM to check the regulator's duty cycle(not needed). D looks like the sense circuit(also not needed). looks like it will work fine to me, assuming the connectors have their pins setup the same. l67ss
I guess i found my answer. When i bought my alt bracket over the summer i clipped off the alt plug and tied it to the bracket. Just compared them. Same colors, same location and everything
