vmax
Been a lurker for a while and have a few questions... Broke down and started fixing my 90 gpt. Has 60k miles and is clean. Only thing bad is guy never flushed the cooling system ever... Im doing a gasket change...head intake ect...and cleaning everything up. Got the hd felpro head gaskets and a gasket kit. The valve seals are all one color in the kit,and the stock ones are different color. Exhaust ones are red?...intake are black. Whats the difference? Other thing...was dipping a set of valves to clean them.. Went to fish them out and could only get the intake valve(magnetic) Couldnt get the exhaust...non metalic?..stainless? I know its a factory motor...I know the guy who bought it from the dealership. Any info would be appreciated...I dont want to screw it up and its been a while since I'vw rebuilt a motor. Schurkey
All exhaust valves are stainless. Nothing else survives. Better valves are ONE PIECE stainless, rather than stem and face spin-welded together. Better valves are made from better/more expensive grades of stainless steel. Well, OK, maybe there's some exotic Titanium exhaust valves...but anything you're likely to see is going to be stainless steel. Some grades of stainless steel can be magnetic, some aren't.
