boostnawd
take out the plug, stick a screwdriver in it, turn the crank pulley until the screwdriver is at it's highest point.
Robby1870
If you have your cams still on, watch the valves
boostnawd
what if the timing is off?
Robby1870
what if the timing is off? fix the timing No, the best way is to use the mark on the crank pulley
Rob95CS
take out the plug, stick a screwdriver in it, turn the crank pulley until the screwdriver is at it's highest point. Yep! Do that. Also, I'm not sure if it applies to these motors, but on my old 307, you would feel a small burst of air come out of the #1 plug socket when the crank came to TDC while turning it.... so you could feel with your finger too, and not a screwdriver. brother pig
Also, don't forget top dead center is defined also by the timing. Both valves should be closed when the piston is at its highest point. (you can use the previously stated methods to find this)

TeeJay3800
Can anyone give a good definition of top dead center or explain it in practical terms :?:
Robby1870
Top Dead Center, TDC is the point in the travel of the piston where it is at the top, AND, after the intake valve of the cylinder has opened and closed. TDC is the spot or time when the spark plug is fired and the mixture is ignited.
TeeJay3800
Gotcha. That makes sense. I'm still a little confused though cuz I've heard TDC used in other situations and in different ways.
getragz34
The screwdriver trick works pretty good, but make sure the motor is in the compression stroke and wait till screwdriver gets to the highest point. Then slowly rotate crank a little bit further until screwdriver starts to go down, this is to make sure your at TDC. THen rotate crank back so the screwdriver is at its peak. Hope that helps
joey b
TDC = Top dead center AND Twin Dual Cam (3.4 DOHC)
