If I understood his question correctly, and the really nice exploded drawing, the "thing" the thermostat housing bolts to is the timing cover.

What's wrong with the one he has?

Not a fun thing at all to replace, and a ton of work.

Are you talking about part #313 on the following image:

From page:

http://parts.nalleygmc.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_assembly=401464

That's called the "water outlet" or "thermostat housing".

That is NOT the thermostat housing.

It is also NOT the "water outlet", since it's on the INLET side to the water pump.

As said, the thermostat housing (302) bolts to the lower intake manifold (333). The thermostat is #301

On my lq1 there seems to be bolts holding the part to the lower intake hence the question; Can it be replaced?

It bolts on. Of course it can be replaced. Don't forget to buy a gasket, and to anti-seize the bolts when you put the new thermostat housing back on.

First Guess: Thermostat housing is discontinued by GM. Maybe available in the aftermarket. Probably "Treasure Yard Only" by now.

Every time I mess with the LQ1 thermostat housing I end up bending the bracket out of the way and not reusing it. I've never had any issues doing that on at least 3 engines now. Otherwise theres one bolt, and one stud with another bolt to hold that bracket.
