Starks90
Anyone made the swap on a fifth generation Monte with the LQ1? My donor car would probably be a fifthgen GTP... Im still in school learning mechanics but can weld nicely and am not afraid of challenges. I wish to have a better, more durable transaxle for the car since my 4t-65e started slipping. I might also consider the whole swap from LQ1 to L67 as i feel my 3.4 is in good shape but imprisoned in a w-body, struggling to pull the enormous weight of the car. There is rather little space for upgrades under the hood (i hear that twin cam engines respond well to forced induction) with the power plant's positionning so maybe I ll buy a Fiero or Tracker to put the LQ1 to good use... Not sure yet Any advice or info would be gladly welcomed, Thanks in advance -Marc
l67ss
L67 and 4t65hd swaps on 95-99 montes are very common and doable. To just swap trannies youll have to reprogram the axle ratios in the pcm. All you have to do to make it fit is make a hybrid pass side cv axle. (Easier than it sounds.) The only advantage of an hd is a slightly stronger differential. The internals are the same.
Starks90
Could you please continue on the hybrid passenger side axle? Also can i just swap diffs?
l67ss
Then youd defeat the purpose of hd swapping lol. On the axle, use an hd inner stub and a monte ls 3.1 outer axle Could you please continue on the hybrid passenger side axle? Also can i just swap diffs? gambler87
Not to hijack this thread, but quick question. I have a 97 Monte wiring harness and ecu for a LQ1 and what my computer system tells me is that they came with a 4T65e in that year. I have a 96 Gtp with a LQ1 and a 4T60e. Can I swap a 4T65hd into my Gtp using the 97 Monte Carlo wiring harness and ecu Sent from my MB886 using Tapatalk
l67ss
Youll have to change a couple wires at the c100 and get diff cvs and tranny lines, but yes Not to hijack this thread, but quick question. z34Phoenix
my friend did the swap to a 4t65e in his 96Z34 and then later did the swap to a 5spd. it is all do able. he used a 97Z34 harness and pcm to connect to the trans. to the OP. there is really no reason to swap to the HD trans. the diff's are not the weak point in these cars. if you are going to abuse it or do burn outs then the any diff is going to be shrapnel... the 3.29 gear ratio in the normal 4t65e is actually better for performance then the 2.93's in the HD. Imp558
I thuoght the HD has roller bearing pto's vs the standard sleeve bearing outputs? Was I misinformed?
