pshojo Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 Noticed my car delays going into gear. The cutlass needs to idle for a couple minutes before it will shift into any gear . Is this going out? Quote

19Cutlass94 Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 Does it drive fine? You talking about shifting driving down the road, or shifting from PRND...? Quote
pshojo Posted January 4, 2014 Author Report Posted January 4, 2014 Once it engages, seems to drive just fine Quote
pshojo Posted January 5, 2014 Author Report Posted January 5, 2014 I did filter about a month ago, maybe that's clogged again.... Quote
l67ss Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 Was it overdue when you changed it? Sometimes sludge will break loose and clog the new filter. I did filter about a month ago, maybe that's clogged again.... Quote
pshojo Posted January 5, 2014 Author Report Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Well, it has 105k miles. Bought it with 85k. Not sure how often it was done before. The fluid was still pretty clean looking. The Trans magnet had about 1/8" metal on it. Â Maybe ill do a filter just incase? Â the Trans does shift hard 1-2 after warm. If this makes a difference. l67ss Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 Yeah it wouldnt hurt. How long does it hold 1st gear on the 1-2 shift? Quote
l67ss Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 I meant how long does it tke to shift to secpnd? Yeah, holds just fine. Quote
WhatTheFehl Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 This is a common issue on especially the early 4EAT Subaru transmissions, the fix for those cars is to drain and refill the fluid and add a can of TransX to it. What causes the delayed engagement in those transmissions is an internal rubber seal that breaks down over time, causing a lack of pressure. The delayed engagement is because it takes longer for the transmission to build up to appropriate amount of pressure to put it into drive. The TransX swells the seals and fixes the issue. It is a temporary repair that can be used continuously as long as you add TransX every time the transmission is due for fluid replacement. Â Have no clue if that is the issue in your case, but might be worth a shot. Quote
pshojo Posted January 5, 2014 Author Report Posted January 5, 2014 Could other Trans conditioner like Lucas help? Quote
Schurkey Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 START by verifying the fluid level. Quote
pshojo Posted January 5, 2014 Author Report Posted January 5, 2014 Fluid level is perfect level and color. I did forget the Trans was rebuilt at 70k miles according to previous owner Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 Is the NSS good? When you try and shift gears, can you verify that the cable on top of the trans is moving the way it should be? Quote
pshojo Posted January 7, 2014 Author Report Posted January 7, 2014 I haven't changed filter yet, but I have to let vehicle idle for few minutes first. After I've driven it, and park it, found out it goes into gear pretty quick after being at the gym for an hour. But after day at work, it has to idle for few minutes. I did try adding some Trans fluid conditioner, but doesn't seen to make difference when cold Quote
l67ss Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 I will NEVER use another lucas product. I have had bad experiences on two different vehicals with two different products of theirs. The last product of theirs that i used was their trans treatment, it clogged my new tranny filter. I haven't changed filter yet, but I have to let vehicle idle for few minutes first.
