Booba
Hey guys, I don't plan on this happening til it warms up, but it's time to start part collecting, learning more, etc. My car has 231k on the clock, and I have basically replaced damn near everything, sway bars, struts, endlinks, engine, wheel bearings, all kinds of stuff. One main problem with my car right now is the TCC solenoid. For now, I have the wire disconnected from the PCM, and it acts fine, but I know it's not good for the transmission for a prolonged period of time (although I do have a cooler on it and monitor the temperature). I'm up in the air on fixing this transmission or picking up a JY (as low mileage as I can find) transmission, dropping a few upgrades into it (nothing major: shift kit, a few other things), put my differential on it then swapping it into my car. Other than the TCC solenoid, my current transmission performs flawlessly, and I have no idea if it has every been replaced before. I did install the shift kit when the engine was out, and the fluid was dark, but there wasn't THAT much friction material in it. Anyways, just wondering what you guys thought would be the better idea. My local U pull it JY has the transmissions for $90... If it ain't broke don't fix it? I dunno, I have to drive the car 2600+ miles round trip in June and I want it to make it there....
Imp558
Sounds like it would be more cost effective to just replace the tranny. It's suffering fuel economy without the TCC.
rich_e777
With a JY trans you run a big risk of inheriting another problem or the same one. So if you go that route look for a donor car with rear end body damage vs a dead engine. If it were me,I would look into how hard it would be to change the solenoid, depending on how I trust the rest of the current transmissions` reliability. Booba
I know all that is involved in changing the solenoid, and it's not really that hard. Lord knows I've dealt with worse. Other than this TCC solenoid, the transmission has given me no reason to doubt it at all, everything else works perfectly. At the JY I goto, they normally write why it is at the JY on the car, Repo title, bad engine, bad transmission, etc.
virtuetovice
Time to take a bath in trans fluid...
Booba
I hear it's good for my hair...all 3\4" of it, lol. I'm wondering if there is anything else I should do to it while I'm in there? I have the DIY shift kit installed already with the Mcmaster spacers and an Exploder transmission cooler, but that's it for now.

That would more than helpful and not just most of the time. Still though as long as you don't see chunks of metal in your fluid might as well run it. Unless the solenoid failure is due to another cause, never had to mess with mine other than a fluid and filter change so I don't know a lot about them. 19Cutlass94
5spd swap gets my vote. But thats just me.
Schurkey
BUY the Treasure Yard transmission for $90. Pull the TCC solenoid out of it, put it in the transmission that's in your vehicle now. Wrap the Treasure Yard transmission in some garbage bags, and put it in the garage in case your transmission takes a dump later.
l67ss
Its the same jy i go to, they are a kikass jy, very good about their warrantee. Thas where i got my 4t65. PEOPLE DO THAT???!!! Nas Escobar
I wish they did that at my local yards... they just toss them out there and crush em 2 weeks later. The only indicator we get if a car is good is if the insurance sells it to them.
Booba
Its the same jy i go to, they are a kikass jy, very good about their warrantee. Thas where i got my 4t65. Hey next time you are there (since you are closer of course) look around at some of the trannies and see what you think if you don't mind. There is that 03, but I don't think the transmission would work in mine, and on top of that, the odometer did show 303k...even though the car looks like 30k. As far as getting the JY tranny and then putting the TCC from that tranny into mine? If I were to do that, I'd most likely just swap valve bodies...Like I said, this is all kind of up in the air right now. Nothing will actually be happening until I can go 1 full week without seeing my breath or falling on my ass or loosing feeling in my fingers when I'm outside. l67ss
Yeah you really need to stick to 98-02 trannys, 03+ had different electronics. I dont know of any 4t65hd trannys there(the l67 cars are 97 and older with 4t60s) BUT 00-01 luminas have the same gear ratio and and youd have to do is use your original tq converter and a pass side cv from a gp gt
Booba
I'd swap my differential over to the new transmission, that's easy enough.
l67ss
What about that white regal then I'd swap my differential over to the new transmission, that's easy enough.
Booba
Digital Odometer, we don't know the mileage..unless we pull it and connect whatever wire needs to be powered to +12v.
