Nhpatriot Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 Swap rear drums on my 2003 Grand Am with Rear disc from 2000 Grand Am Anyone know how big a job this is? Is all the work at the wheels or do I have to change the ABS controller and or Master Cylinder too? Is the speed sensor tone ring the same on both? I'm thinking it shouldn't be too bad if I can just swap the spindles but if there are differences in the ABS controls it could turn into a problem. Quote
Imp558 Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 That's a J-body,, I believe there are 3 or 4 forums dedicated to them. You would undoubtedly find better information there. Quote
Psych0matt Posted December 10, 2013 Report Posted December 10, 2013 Not a J body, Js are cavaliers and sunfire. The grand am is an N body car. However, I'm sure it can be done, most likely a matter of swapping out all the parts Quote
Nas Escobar Posted December 11, 2013 Report Posted December 11, 2013 I did this to my 2003 with discs from a 2004. It's pretty straightforward. I have a write up of it on the GAOC and the Alero Forum. I'll link it to you at the bottom. Anyone know how big a job this is? It's basically an extended rotor and pad swap. The hardest part is taking off the hand brake cables. Everything else is torqued in to specific lbft so you're going to need a breaker bar and a torque ratchet, ALTHOUGH you can use the torque ratchet to take off the bolts as well. Some people don't recommend it but I've done it like this in the past and nothing has happened. Is all the work at the wheels or do I have to change the ABS controller and or Master Cylinder too? The ABS controller and Master Cylinder are the same on both the SE and the GT. They're also the same in all Aleros (the GA twin). In fact, all brake parts swap between the Grand Am and Alero. Everything was the same. All you have to do is bleed the 4 wheels and MC after you do the swap. Is the speed sensor tone ring the same on both? Yes Here's the link. You're welcome to PM me if you have more questions as to how to do it. http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=155808 Quote
