95 grand prix se 3.1l questions

okay i just aquired a 1995 grand prix se 3.1l as my new gas getter, got it for nickels since it needs some work.

First it has a Check engine light on but I can't seem to check it, It doesn't have the "B" connector in the OBD1 plug, It has "A, M, J" spots and doesn't look like anything was removed or ever been unbolted before(which I did to check for correct wires). So which wires do I connect or is there somewhere else i can get the diagnostic wire??

Second thing is probably why the check engine light is on, The TCC fuse in the under hood fuse block keeps blowing as soon as its put in, the previous owner said that the first time it blew he simply replaced and it last for a while then blew again and he kept replacing it and the length of time between blowing became shorter and shorter until it blows as soon as its put in while the power is on. it seems like it only has two gears now second and third while the TCC fuse is blown.

I've looked online and seen this can be a common problem and a couple write ups, not very good ones tho, but my local auto parts store doesn't show a listing for a TCC solenoid.

so questions does anyone have a good write up and a part number?

can't grab codes that way on the 94-95 3100s, need a scanner/aldl cable.

TCC fuse also powers the shift solenoids, IIRC, so that explains you only having two gears(3rd and manual 2nd).

if i posted the electrical diagram, would it be of any use to you?

Hum, this cable I need, will it make it work with my obd2 scanner? My local O'rileys has a scanner that does obd1 but it looked to just use the a&b pin also. I'm nit sure what the wiring diagram cab do for me? Is there something I can make to read the codes?

Okay I just googled the alda cable, I faintly remember this from years back, guess I need to find somewhere to buy the cable and find some software that will work with Windows 7.

One of the big time members here makes them or used to, might need to bump that thread again now that I think about it. I`ve got the same connector in my CS and still have not found any kind of scan tool that will work for it. I had thought to take it to a GM dealership to see what they say but I`m done taking my car anywhere for work because every time I do they seem to break something else. Here a thread link with some good info http://www.w-body.com/showthread.php/51487-OBD1-ALDL-Cables/page8 see RobertSaar`s post on page 8

i doubt it would work, though i have seen combination OBD1 and OBD2 scanners before. if it only does the A/B pin trick, it isn't actually a scanner. i have posted all of the information necessary to make your own cable on at least one forum before. you will need to solder and preferably make an enclosure for the delicate parts of the cable.

i've made it...... at last. one step below Nunzi. much impress. very awe.

i forgot i made a "tutorial" of how to set everything up here, i've just been linking over to the gearhead-efi instructions... Mark compacted a lot of the instructions into a much easier to read post than i ever could.

My scantool works for my '95 Cutlass, should work for yours. It's an ancient Actron CP9100. Got it on Ebay for $50.00 several years ago. If you're keeping the car for any length of time, it's worth it.

So i downloaded the software, looks confusing, but being a child of technology it won't take but a minute to figure out. Do you sell the cable? i rather not fuck with making it, do you have the link for the instructions?

i don't have any on-hand and would probably be a month before i do.

depending on your preferences, i would recommend one from either moates.net or reddevilriver.
