defflepp1
ok so I've been driving my new '94 3.4 euro and so far its been awesome except for a few small issues. first, when i blip the throttle it revs up then comes down and hangs around about 1200 rpm for about 1-2 seconds before going back down to about 600-700, is this normal? and what is the proper idle speed for an LQ1? second, when I'm driving around the temp gauges seems to stay around the 1/4 mark however if i stop the temp slowly starts rising to about the 2/3 mark. i have yet to see the fans come on, and im not really getting very much heat out of the vents, when i open the hood i can feel the heat off of the engine, both radiator hoses are hot, and there is plenty of coolant. my first thought is the thermostat is stuck open, but wouldnt that make it run cold all the time and not heat up like that? and is there a simple way to test the fans? i know on the caprice i had, all you had to do was unplug a sensor and they come on, is there anything like that? well thats all i can think of for now, otherwise its been good so far, engine runs good and smooth trans shifts good, i think for $500 i did pretty good
Psych0matt
For your first issue you may have a slight vacuum leak somewhere, it should drop down pretty quick, but it's probably small. Idle you should be around 800 when warm, closer to 1100 right after startup. Your temp issue may be thermostat related, and for $5 and 10 minutes I'd start there, top off the coolant and bleed the air, and see what happens
defflepp1
hey thanks for the reply, what is the best method for bleeding the air out? ive never had to do that before, lol
Psych0matt
I've never had to, but I've done it once or twice. THere's a little bleeder screw on the top of the little pipe where the thermostat sits.
defflepp1
so i was trying to change my thermostat but i cant for the life of me figure it out. the metal tab that holds the other hose is getting in the way, is there some sort of trick to this? Schurkey
There are TWO bleeder screws on each of my '92 and '93 Luminas. Bracket/metal tab question answered in the other thread you started.
