will_s95
I am trying to install a HUD that I got from the junkyard. I pulled part of the dash off and I see the space where the HUD goes, but I cannot find the wires for it anywhere. I found one wrapped up behind the lightswitch but it fits neither the HUD nor the light switch. Is this only a mod for coupes? I have a sedan. If so, does anyone want to buy a HUD, HUD specific switch, and dash piece? Lol.
RobertISaar
sedans can have HUDs, it's likely that your car just didn't have the harness installed from the factory. could still be added, but won't be as simple.
94 olds vert
It can be done. Just need to wire it up.
will_s95
Okay, so I need to go back to the junkyard and pull some wires out of the car I got it from then? From all the YouTube vids I watched I figured they'd all just be tucked back there allready
94 olds vert
Yeah grab as much of the wiring you can
will_s95
How do I go about installing the wire harness? Does it just clip in somewhere?
94 olds vert
No it will have to be spliced in. Should be straight forward. The wires will/should be the same color.
will_s95
Thinking maybe this is a bit beyond me for what it's worth... What I thought would be an easy mod just has me missing parts and snapping my dash (just noticed that all the rivets for the right cubby above the radio broke). Is there any way to test and see if the HUD unit powers on so maybe I can have a better chance at selling it? I have a 12 and 5 volt power supply. Thanks. 94 olds vert
It can be bench tested but you will need a wiring diagram.
RobertISaar
i take it any 94-96 GP diagram would work?
94 olds vert
All 94-96 huds should be the same.
will_s95
Looks like according to this I connect positive to a1 and ground to a8. will_s95
HUD powered on. Cool green lights. Now to clean it off and decide weather to save it and hack up my wiring and try to make it work or see how much money I can get for the parts... Gonna be tough shipping a big dash piece somewhere. Thanks for the help guys.
RobertISaar
looks like it. and yes, 12V. anywhere from 10-14V would be reasonable to expect as safe values.
Crazy K
I've done the wire it in... it's worth having. You can also look at info in the HUD thread in FAQ. FYI a 94-96 pontiac must have ABS to have the hidden wires.
