4spdz34
so i guess i'm gunna find out the next weakest link in my trans when i pull it apart this week. its either the converter went bad(internally) i snapped the input shaft to the trans, or i blew apart the final drive. its pretty funny acctually. se i have a 2800 stall converter from a 4cyl quad four car. its brand new when i bought it. well those cars put out zero torque so that stall rating was at there torque level. well my car has some mods done to it and i used to be able to get it to brake stall at 3700 before the car would start to move forward. last weekend i did the 94 rear brake upgrade. so saturday night i'm out with friends and i just got done racing my friend in his gt mustang and we were lining up again, so this time i decide i will brake stall the car for a better launch well this time the car doesn't move forward and the brakes hold it, the mother fucker goes to 4500 for about 2 secs then the loudest and nastiest clunbk ever, it was so big it felt like someone hit me and the rearview mirror fell off. well now the car wants to move if you give it a little gas but then it starts to slip. i was kinda mad at first cause i didn't get to beat his the mustangs ass again. if it is the final drive i think i'm gunna get a lsd, cause my car has major traction problems, anyone use those? 4spdz34
lsd= limited slip differential. it puts equal power to both drive wheels for better traction
GPRACER
Ha! I know what it is I just thought LSD was funny. I have personally installed one in a 2nd Gen W. with a 4T65e. Iguess you would see better et's, I remember smoking 2 tires instead of 1 anyways. What tranny do you have. I'm not sure if the one for the 65 will fit the 60 or the older 40 trans. The grandprix store lists one, but for big bucks. I'd love to know if there is one for the 4T60e though, I'm pulling my trans this week for a no 4th gear problem. 4spdz34
i have a 60e thats rebuilt and has every mod done to it besides the lsd. the whole vavle body is reworked. the trans guy did it right. i changed the fluid last week and the pan had no film on it and some metal/clutch material, not to bad for 7000 miles of harsh driving. i also changed my uncles on his 2003 monte carlo with 3500 miles on it, his was way worse than mine. but intense does make a lsd for the 60e. if you want the 65e differential you have to change the ring gear int the transmission that the carrier rides on. but why would you do that when you can have a 3.73 with the 60e and only a 3.69 with the 65e. GPRACER
Wish it was not so damn expensive to get a/m parts to Canada. When doing a performance rebuild on a trans, one of the things I like to do is to block off the accumulator. Shifts really hard with no slippage between gears. Feels harsh but is actually easer on the clutches. Much the same effect as a shift kit. Can't wait to try it with my 60e. See if I can get rid of the granny 1-2 shift. Â I don't think I have a major problem with my tranny, One day I had 4th the next I didn't. I'm a nut about fluid/filter changes, every 20,000 kilometers, so I know I don't have a fluid problem. Probably just a stuck 3-4 shift valve. Been shifting hard into 4th at WOT as well around 145km/h.
4spdz34
block off the accumulator? i think i know what you mean but please explain. my setup gets rid of the springs in the accumulator housing and i put brass rods under the accumulator pistons so they are locked at the top of there bore, it shifts really hard. i also removed the cushion spring from the 1-2 low servo, so when u manually downshift to the 2nd or 1st postion it shifts hard
dykz34
Blocking off the accumulator doesnt do ANYTHING for WOT shifts. Only at partial throttle are the shifts harder. Dont bother with it. (Been there, done that)
4spdz34
well i found out what it is today. i blew apart my 7 month old planetary gear set and now meatal is evrywhere in the trans and it needs another full rebuild, thats the last thing i thought it was but now just about evrerthing has to be replaced again, it was all new or rebuilt. and to make things worse i have been driving my dads olds acheiva and i smashed the front end of it today, 2000$ worth of damage, i should just buy him a new friggin car. worst month ever and i feel its only going to get worse. but after my trans is done i'm just gunna baby the fucker, but i'm building a motor and this trans won't like it so i'm gunna put a manual in it later dudes
4spdz34
i just got some more info on my trans now that it is apart. the whole thing is wasted even the friggin case. most of the metal drums inside are sheared inhalf and the input shaft is broke and twisted up. the differential is craked into a billion pieces along with the planatery gears. my one way roller clutchs are nonexsitant. the trans guy told me it was the most abused trans he had ever seen, i will glady take the award. so i guess i'm gunna find a junkyard trans and get it rebuilt, till i get my manual trans swap shit
