Schurkey
There are 21 views, and no replies as I type this. I have no idea what a dp is. Maybe the other twenty viewers don't know, either. Is it REALLY so difficult to type four correct letters: "have" and "what" instead of three: "hav" and "wut"? If you aren't willing to go through the effort to pose a proper question, why should we go through the effort to give you an intelligent reply? 19Cutlass94
Ya know, some decent English would help you. It's a pain in the ass to read your threads. A little more info would help as well. Is this a 3.1mpfi or a large port 3100? Or even what car? For the most part, the dp, assuming you mean downpipe from the manifold to the converter, it's a double pipe. Outer pipe is about 2.5" while the inner pipe, what the exhaust actually flows through, is about 1.5". Hope this helps.

carkhz316
While I agree that sometimes the shorthand english can be confusing, why are you all getting bent out of shape at OP? You know what he's trying to ask. Stay out of the thread if all you're going to do is lambaste him for grammar and spelling mistakes. Everyone needs to either relax and chill out OR make for sure damn sure everybody is checking their spelling. l67ss
Thinkin about replacing the flex joint with regular flex pipe , opinions?
Schurkey
Thinkin about replacing the flex joint with regular flex pipe , opinions? If the "regular flex pipe" you have access to is as piss-poor as the "regular flex pipe" sold around here, it'll be rusted-out in six months, and an exhaust leak from Day One. I have a couple of sections of flex pipe in the exhaust system I use for running-in fresh engines on the assembly stand. One exhaust system to connect to a multitude of engines--but that exhaust system doesn't have ten hours of actual run-time in five years. rich_e777
(Schurkey)For the longest time I suspected your garage is some top secret bunker that develops and tests new technologies for existing and prototype vehicles. Now you`re just confirming it:lol:. But seriously what would be a better alternative to the flex joint in the exhaust system? Its pretty much there to allow for the engine to rock, correct? 19Cutlass94
I don't have a flex pipe in the exhaust system in my car. It's been going fine for several yrs. Sent from my iPhone

More like a home-garage for a committed (perhaps committable) hobbyist, with ten years in the auto repair industry (and glad to be done with that phase of my life.) I do more to re-discover and photograph "old tech" than to invent "new tech". The "real" flex joints tend to be stainless steel, rather than the stamped-and-formed mild steel of regular flex pipe. Yes, they allow for engine shake, and in some applications thermal expansion. There are aftermarket sources for real flex joints, but they're far more expensive than "flex pipe".
