If you are cutting them up/modding to fit your first gen then it might be worthwhile if you can get em really cheap and fix the problems they have at that point. But as far as their intended application (second gens), hell no. Buy the $200 speed daddys on ebay and call it a day.

after beating the living shit out of your firewall and swapping in thinner fans, IIRC.

Nope. Mine went on without any real problems.

We were talking about both 1st gens and 2nd gens, 1st gens indeed will need pounding of the firewall, but that will be for any headers designed for 2nd gens going on a 1st gen.

Getting back to the original question, though, I really can't imagine a situation in which buying used headers with 60,000 miles on them sounds like a good idea. If you're going to go to all that trouble, you're far better off getting NEW ones that aren't already pretty well used up..and most likely have warped flanges.

Well no matter what you'll be doing mods to fit headers on a first gen.

I knew about the mafia style firewall persuation ;)

'98 Monte Z34, top-swapped 3800 with 3.8 pulley. No real mods other than a FWI and homemade 3" DP. Also, it's a 5 speed 284 with a Spec stage 2 clutch

Nice im goin same basic route only with a 97 ls and im thinkin goin f40 six-speed easier to find :)

That would be really cool. My back up plan, should I ever be without a working 284 or related parts, is to convert to a 6 speed. I may do it in the future for the heck of it, since coming this far. I know it's a bit more work, but if a 2nd gen has done it, I'm sure I can do it to our 1.5's

Actually prolly easier than a 2nd gen we hav a narrower track and one thing iirc is that the axles were 2" too narrow overall :)

So i've always wondered this so i'm posting here instead of making new thread: what is it about the 2nd gen headers that makes them hard to fit on a 1st gen? And are there headers that fit a 1st gen without advanced persuasion tactics?
