Silentkillzr
95 3100 SE GP, Runs decent half the time, missfires and dies the other half. Sounds like its running on not all cyl. Burns a blackish/greyish smoke. Slight smell of oil but not exactly, weird smell, almost reminds me of tranny fluid burning. Was out of oil when i got to it, put some in and ran a little better, the intake tube popped off too but i remounted it. Any clues or ideas guys? RobertISaar
a dying ICM or coilpack(s) could certainly do it.
19Cutlass94
When it runs decent, is the motor hot or cold?
Silentkillzr
Colder mainly but did it when it was warm a couple times Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Silentkillzr
And of course started fine dead cold. Wtf GP! Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
white4d96
I had a similar issue. Eventually found a weep from the corner of my LIM. LIMG failure or warped intake possibly.
Silentkillzr
Changed plugs. They were pretty white but no damage. Ran fine cold drove it till warm and boom it happened again. I'm really leaning to coils, going to swap the ones off my car tomorrow to try and see. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Galaxie500XL
Coil is a reasonable possibility...if you lose one on a DIS system, you lose two cylinders...they don't run so well on 4. Had a similar problem with mine about a year ago, turned out there was a crack in the ignition control module, and some moisture had crept in there. As the engine warmed, the moisture flashed to steam, and caused all sorts of weirdness.
RobertISaar
i've actually lost half of a coilpack before.... it was an odd thing to diagnose. suspected dead side of the coil was on a rear cylinder, so i swapped the coil ends of the plug wires around and had it fire on it's front cylinder companion, where the good side of the coil would arc a couple of inches, the dead side was intermittent and had much less distance. Silentkillzr
Coil packs and ICM are good i believe, i swapped mine and still has the same misfire issue, i got a log here for those who can read it: http://specbar.net/wbody/Misfire95PRIX.xdl
RobertISaar
you have a history DTC33 (MAP high). not sure what would have caused that or if it would cause any issues, but i would clear it just to remove it from the list of possibilities. seemed to rev cleanly the third time you got into the throttle, the other two, i can see the choppy RPM. Armybarlow
have you tried pulling one spark plug wire at a time to see which cylinders are not contributing? should hear the engine die down when one is pulled.
